Hybrid role combining propane delivery and service-technician mentorship under local leadership.
Responsibilities
- Complete daily propane deliveries to residential, commercial, and industrial customers following a pre-determined route; communicate route changes or issues to manager.
- Record deliveries, meter readings, and tank percentages accurately via tablet.
- Inspect, paint, and repair company-owned propane tanks.
- Transport, lift, and position propane tanks at customer sites using company vehicles and appropriate equipment.
- Excavate trenches for underground propane lines to local-code depth and distance.
- Cut, measure, and install propane piping, connecting tanks to appliances with proper fittings.
- Perform leak detection and pressure tests on all connections to ensure system integrity.
- Explain installation details, propane usage, and safety procedures to customers; address concerns.
- Interact professionally with customers regarding delivery schedules, emergency requests, and general inquiries.
- Comply with DOT and state hazardous-materials transportation regulations; educate customers on safe propane practices.
- Conduct prefill inspections, wear required safety gear, and report safety concerns or incidents immediately.
- Maintain knowledge of propane handling and emergency response protocols.
- Obey traffic laws and follow transportation procedures; read maps and follow geographic directions.
- Verify inventory loads against shipping papers; maintain vehicle logs, cargo records, and billing statements.
- Inspect and maintain vehicle supplies and equipment (gas, oil, tires, lights, brakes); report mechanical issues.
- Perform emergency repairs such as changing tires, installing light bulbs, fuses, tire chains, or spark plugs.
- Report delays, accidents, or transportation situations to base or other vehicles using telephones or mobile two-way radios.
Requirements
- Valid CDL-A or CDL-B with Tanker and Hazmat endorsements (or ability to obtain; CDL scholarship opportunities available).
- Clean driving record and ability to pass DOT physical examinations.
- Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to perform minor vehicle maintenance checks.
- Excellent customer service skills and professional demeanor.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in various weather conditions.
- Availability for on-call rotations, including evenings and weekends.
- Previous propane experience not required.
