Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections on standby generator systems (e.g., oil changes, filter replacements, battery testing)
- Diagnose and repair generator issues including electrical faults, engine problems, and control system errors
- Respond to service calls and emergency outages in a timely and professional manner
- Document all service activities, inspections, test results, and repairs in the company’s service management system
- Perform system start-ups, load testing, and operational checks
- Communicate clearly with customers regarding service findings, recommended repairs, and usage instructions
- Cook with the parts department and service coordinators to ensure efficient scheduling and inventory usage
- Maintain company tools, service vehicles, and safety gear in good working condition
- Adhere to all safety procedures, manufacturer guidelines, and local electrical codes
- Stay current on generator technologies and participate in manufacturer or company-led training
Education Skills and Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- Trade school or technical training in electrical, diesel, or mechanical systems preferred
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in generator service, electrical maintenance, diesel engines, or similar field service roles
- Experience with generator brands such as Generac, Kohler, Cummins, or Briggs & Stratton is highly preferred
- Familiarity with both residential and light commercial generator systems is a plus
