Service Technician

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and inspections on standby generator systems (e.g., oil changes, filter replacements, battery testing)
• Diagnose and repair generator issues including electrical faults, engine problems, and control system errors
• Respond to service calls and emergency outages in a timely and professional manner
• Document all service activities, inspections, test results, and repairs in the company’s service management system
• Perform system start-ups, load testing, and operational checks
• Communicate clearly with customers regarding service findings, recommended repairs, and usage instructions
• Cook with the parts department and service coordinators to ensure efficient scheduling and inventory usage
• Maintain company tools, service vehicles, and safety gear in good working condition
• Adhere to all safety procedures, manufacturer guidelines, and local electrical codes
• Stay current on generator technologies and participate in manufacturer or company-led training

Education Skills and Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• Trade school or technical training in electrical, diesel, or mechanical systems preferred
• Minimum 2–5 years of experience in generator service, electrical maintenance, diesel engines, or similar field service roles
• Experience with generator brands such as Generac, Kohler, Cummins, or Briggs & Stratton is highly preferred
• Familiarity with both residential and light commercial generator systems is a plus
