About the role

A Blake & Pendleton Service Technician provides maintenance and repair support for customers across varied industries, including manufacturing, utility, forestry, and mining. The role primarily supports Sullair compressed air equipment but also covers many other equipment designs. Technicians must maintain a high degree of experience and adapt to evolving equipment modifications. The position requires adherence to safety training and certifications as mandated by industry agencies (e.g., OSHA, MHSA). While the schedule is generally fixed, technicians may need to adjust based on customer requests or work on-call as part of a rotating schedule managed by the Service Manager.

Physical demands include frequently lifting over 50 lbs (occasionally exceeding 100 lbs), climbing ladders, carrying buckets of lubricants weighing 25–55 lbs, bending, and working after hours or in inclement weather.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quarterly, semi-annual, and annual preventive maintenance.
  • Accurately assess and repair trouble calls on machinery.
  • Perform start-ups on newly installed machines.
  • Check in with the Service Coordinator daily.
  • Submit completed timesheets and service tickets to the Service Coordinator daily.
  • Wear a clean company uniform daily and maintain a professional demeanor.
  • Maintain a clean service truck.
  • Maintain physical fitness to safely perform job duties and operate a company service truck.

Requirements

Electrical Knowledge

  • Skilled in troubleshooting 120V control circuits.
  • Able to read and comprehend wiring diagrams.
  • Troubleshoot and repair single-phase and 3-phase motor control circuits up to 480V, including full voltage, reduced voltage, and soft starters.
  • Troubleshoot 3-phase and single-phase motors.
  • Proficient in using multimeters, ampmeters, and infrared meters while adhering to company and customer safety requirements.

Mechanical Knowledge

  • Read and comprehend P&I drawings.
  • Troubleshoot and repair various air compressor control components.
  • Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, cleaning, and setting controls.
  • Set up rigging equipment and safely remove/reinstall motors, compressors, and associated components.
  • Perform motor alignments.
  • Safely use hand tools and power tools (e.g., drill motors, grinders, band saws).
  • Understand hydraulic and pneumatic principles and components.
  • Knowledge of different piping types (e.g., copper, black, galvanized).
  • Experience with threading, sweating, brazing, and welding is a plus.
  • Ability to bend and install control tubing (e.g., 1/4" and 5/16" stainless steel tubing).

Refrigeration

  • EPA certifications with Freon experience are a plus.
