Service Technician 1
Service Technician position based in Alma, MI or Lake Orion, MI.
About the role
You will work within the production facility, performing, documenting, and scheduling all maintenance tasks related to servicing coating and support equipment. This role plays a key leadership part in directing and improving equipment performance, directly impacting overall production output. You may indirectly supervise or mentor others and report directly to the Center Manager with a dotted line to Regional Management.
Responsibilities
- Schedule and perform preventive maintenance on all equipment within the facility, ensuring timely completion based on MES.
- Provide emergency equipment repairs to maintain continuous production.
- Comply with equipment standards set by manufacturers.
- Monitor equipment for shutdowns and process interruptions, creating action plans to resolve issues.
- Ensure equipment reliability meets targets and data is up-to-date on the server.
- Plan, purchase, and maintain proper inventory levels to minimize downtime while controlling costs.
- Enforce safety measures and ensure technicians practice safe work habits.
- Maintain a clean, well-organized work area, including power alleys and support systems.
- Train coating technicians in load building, batch-to-batch exchanges, and 80 batch maintenance.
- Exhibit urgency in daily activities when equipment is unable to run production.
- Complete Technical Directives and communicate Technical Information within the facility.
- Participate as a key member of the facility’s management team.
- Assist in developing an internal inventory management process for production.
- Support equipment installation and retrofits within the facility.
- Collaborate with the Production Technology Department on facility projects.
- Communicate effectively with the Center Manager and Area Service Manager.
- Handle additional service-related projects as needed.
Requirements
- 2-year degree (AA) and/or relevant industry certification in an electro-mechanical discipline; equivalent experience may substitute.
- 2+ years’ experience with HVAC, vacuum technology, automotive, or industrial equipment repair.
- Experience interpreting mechanical and electrical schematics and troubleshooting equipment using them.

- Detail-oriented with a strong work ethic and sense of urgency.
- Previous experience with cutting tools, coating techniques, blasting, or plating strongly desired.
- Comfortable working with hands and able to lift 50 lbs.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Positive attitude and willingness to work overtime when required.
- Must be accessible 24 hours a day to respond to service emergencies due to equipment failures.
