About the Role
Under general supervision, the candidate will perform journey-level mechanic tasks on the repair and maintenance of automobiles, heavy trucks, and construction equipment and attachments. Responsibilities include repairing and maintaining motors, generators, and other mechanical and electrical components of stationary or mobile power-driven equipment.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose faulty vehicle and/or equipment operation.
- Perform mechanical repairs covering multiple aspects of automotive and/or diesel systems.
- Maintain and repair motors, generators, and electrical/mechanical components of power-driven equipment.
Requirements
- Four years of experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic responsible for diagnosing faulty vehicle/equipment operation and performing mechanical repairs, or an associate's degree in automotive or diesel repair technology.
- Education substitution: Graduation from a technical/vocational program (e.g., B.O.C.E.S.) in automotive or diesel technology may substitute for one year of experience. A one-year post-high school certificate program may substitute for up to two years of experience.
- Possession of a valid driver's license appropriate for the vehicle type operated.
- Possession and maintenance of a CDL Class B license issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles (required within the probationary period if not already held).
- Obtainment of a valid NYS Inspection Certification before the end of the probationary period.
- Compliance with pre-employment and random drug/alcohol testing per the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act.
- Legal eligibility to work in the United States throughout employment with the New York State Thruway Authority (no visa sponsorship provided).

Pay
The salary range includes the following annual components:
- Base Pay: $31.95/hour
- Geographic Pay: $3.37/hour
