Service & Repair Mechanic (Motor Equipment) - Batavia
Duties
Under general supervision, the candidate will perform the tasks of a journey-level mechanic on the repair and maintenance of automobiles, heavy trucks and construction equipment and attachments. Will repair and maintain motors, generators, and other mechanical and electrical components of stationary or mobile power-driven equipment.
Will supervise support staff as required, may also be required to oversee other journey level employees engaged in the maintenance and repair of motorized equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
- Four years of experience as an automotive or diesel mechanic responsible for the diagnosis of faulty vehicle and/or equipment operation and the performance of mechanical repairs covering several aspects of automotive and/or diesel systems
- OR an associate's degree in automotive or diesel repair technology.
- Education as detailed below may be substituted for a maximum of two years of experience.
- Graduation from a technical or vocational program, such as B.O.C.E.S, in automotive or diesel technology or automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for one year of experience.
- Graduation from a one-year post high school certificate program in automotive or diesel repair technology may be substituted for up to two years of experience.
Possession and Maintenance of a CDL
When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver’s license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. Detailed license requirements are listed below.
Possession and maintenance of a CDL Class B license issued by the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles will be required. Candidates applying without a CDL B license are required to obtain a CDL permit within 30 days of appointment and obtain the license by the end of the probationary period.

ADDITIONAL PAY INFORMATION
The salary range for this position includes all applicable annual components of pay which are:
- Base Pay Range: $31.95
- Geographic Pay: $3.37
ADDITIONAL COMMENTS
Pursuant to the Federal Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act, pre-employment drug and alcohol testing will be required. Once appointed to/selected for the position, random drug and alcohol testing will be required.
Candidates must obtain a valid NYS Inspection Certification issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles, before the end of their probationary period.
