Service Mechanic D

Entry-level apprentice position assisting with the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties in accordance with the Company's safety rules, regulations, and practices; report unsafe conditions and practices.
• During the first six months: operate Company equipment, climb poles and structures, and work on de-energized conductors and equipment; under immediate supervision, work secondary voltage up to 260 volts.
• After six months: under general supervision, work on conductors and equipment energized up to 260 volts; work higher secondary voltages under immediate supervision of a higher classification.
• Assist with the installation and removal of structures within close proximity of energized primary conductors, under immediate supervision.
• Assemble, install, maintain, remove, and inspect conductors, fixtures, and other associated equipment on de-energized overhead and underground facilities; erect equipment mountings such as regulator and transformer platforms.
• Climb poles and structures; work from bucket trucks or ladders; demonstrate comfort working at heights.
• Operate mechanized equipment required to install, remove, or maintain overhead and underground transmission and distribution facilities.
• Use and care for insulating rubber gloves, sleeves, and other personal protective equipment.
• Assist with loading, unloading, handling, maintaining, installing, and removing poles, towers, and structures.
• Operate portable power tools, generators, pumps, and tamps.
• Install, maintain, read, and remove single-phase meters and associated equipment.
• Test meter bases for voltage, backfeed, grounds, and proper connections.
• Install, maintain, and remove services, secondary cable, and associated equipment.
• Install, maintain, and remove dusk-to-dawn and street light equipment.
• Set and remove barricades, flags, signs, and flares; direct pedestrian and vehicle traffic.
• Load, unload, and store materials, tools, and equipment.
• Assist with the installation, removal, and maintenance of underground facilities.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
• Use electronic devices to maintain records, submit reports, and access job aid programs.
• Attend and participate in training as assigned; assist in the training of other employees.
• Perform similar or less skilled work; report irregularities and abnormal conditions.
• Assist employees of equal or higher classification.

Requirements

• High school graduate or General Equivalency Degree (GED).
• No previous work experience required; line or service mechanic certification or line work experience/education preferred.
• Valid state driver license; must obtain appropriate CDL licensing prior to the end of the designated probationary period.
• Must demonstrate the ability to acquire necessary knowledge and skills to perform the duties of Service Mechanic A within the time frame determined by the Company.
• Must acquire qualifications for the next higher classification in the line of progression within the time frame determined by the Company.
• Must complete the HireVue Meter Servicer Virtual Job Tryout assessment (untimed, ~45 minutes).
• Ability to use a computer and electronic devices; write legibly and record accurately.
• Ability to distinguish colors.
• Ability to work aloft on poles, towers, and structures; use various tools; and operate equipment requiring finger manipulation.
• Ability to tolerate awkward or stretched positions while working aloft and suspended from a safety belt.
• Ability to work at heights up to 250 feet.
• Ability to lift 75 lbs. overhead.

Physical Demands

Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Pay

Compensation Range: $30.60 - $31.32 per hour.
