About the role
A leading technology organization is seeking an experienced On-Site Service Engineer (OSE) to provide hands-on technical support for enterprise data center servers and hardware environments, including next-generation AI infrastructure. This is a hands-on server hardware break/fix position.
Responsibilities
- Provide on-site technical support for Dell PowerEdge and other enterprise server hardware.
- Diagnose and resolve server hardware failures and system issues to minimize customer downtime.
- Perform hands-on installation, removal, replacement, and repair of various server components, including memory, CPUs, power supplies, and more.
- Perform rack-and-stack activities, server installation, cabling, component swaps, and hardware configuration.
- Troubleshoot server hardware, BIOS/firmware, operating systems, and hardware diagnostics.
- Perform firmware and BIOS updates.
- Utilize server management platforms such as Dell iDRAC or comparable tools.
- Execute reactive break/fix and preventive maintenance according to established procedures.
- Troubleshoot and isolate hardware failures using documented diagnostic procedures and technical resources.
- Work directly with customers and internal technical teams during service events.
- Communicate service status, troubleshooting progress, and resolution details.
- Accurately document service activities, hardware replacements, troubleshooting steps, and resolutions.
- Escalate complex technical issues when necessary.
- Participate in on-call rotations and provide extended coverage as required.
Requirements
- 3+ years of hands-on experience supporting enterprise servers, data center hardware, or similar infrastructure.
- Direct experience physically working on server hardware, including installation, removal, diagnosis, repair, and component replacement.
- Hands-on experience troubleshooting and replacing various server components, including memory, CPUs, power supplies, and more.
- Experience working with rack-mounted enterprise servers in a data center, field service, or customer environment.
- Strong understanding of server hardware architecture and troubleshooting methodologies.
- Experience with hardware diagnostics, BIOS/firmware, and server management tools.
- Familiarity with Linux or similar operating systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
- Ability to independently diagnose hardware issues.
- Comfortable working independently in a customer-facing environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to support flexible schedules and on-call requirements.
- US citizenship is mandatory.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting Dell PowerEdge servers.
- Dell or other enterprise hardware certifications.
- Experience with Dell iDRAC, HP iLO, or comparable server management platforms.
- Experience supporting GPU/AI server infrastructure.
- Data center operations experience.
- Rack/stack experience.
- Structured cabling experience.
- Server deployment experience.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
Schedule
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM. On-Call: Yes; occasional different shift hours and extended coverage required.
Candidates must be within a 45-minute commute unless relocation is pre-approved.
