Sergeant (#012919) Tyger River Correctional Inst, Enoree (SPARTANBURG) Level 2

Responsibilities

• Supervise subordinate security staff assigned to housing units under the general supervision of the shift lieutenant
• Supervise, maintain custody and control of all inmates assigned to the housing units
• Conduct routine inspections of living areas for compliance with security, safety, and sanitation standards
• Investigate alleged misconduct by inmates and security personnel within area of responsibility
• Assist in conducting formal and informal inmate counts
• Supervise job performance, conduct, and appearance of assigned security personnel; prepare employee evaluations
• Counsel subordinates, recommend disciplinary action, and train staff to required performance standards
• Prepare reports as needed or required
• Perform duties of shift lieutenant when necessary
• Successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire

Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma and relevant experience
• Bachelor's degree in a related field may substitute for required experience

SCDC Minimum Requirements

• High school diploma and eighteen (18) months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work
• Degree in criminal justice or related field may substitute for half of the required experience
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy
• Must successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position
