Sergeant (#012876) Tyger River Correctional Inst, Enoree (SPARTANBURG) Level 2

Under the general supervision of the Shift Lieutenant.

Responsibilities

• Supervise subordinate security staff assigned to housing units.
• Oversee the supervision, custody, and control of all inmates assigned to the housing units.
• Conduct routine inspections of living areas for compliance with security, safety, and sanitation standards.
• Investigate alleged misconduct by inmates and security personnel within assigned areas.
• Assist in conducting formal and informal inmate counts.
• Supervise job performance, conduct, and appearance of assigned security personnel and prepare employee evaluations.
• Counsel, recommend disciplinary action, and train subordinate staff to required performance standards.
• Prepare reports as needed or required.
• Perform duties of the Shift Lieutenant when necessary.
• Successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• Eighteen (18) months of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work.
• A degree in criminal justice or a related field may substitute for half of the required experience.
• Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy.
• Must successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
