About The Role

The Content Strategist is a crucial, client-facing role responsible for day-to-day client deliverables, creating and managing custom client strategies, and communicating both with clients and internal stakeholders. The Strategist manages more Enterprise clients and is expected to have a deep understanding of their service line and how it impacts other areas of business to create a holistic marketing strategy.

Please note: internally, this role is titled Account Strategist, Content & SEO.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Excellence and Best Practices:
    • Create custom strategies and implement best practices for clients to achieve our North Star Metrics (NSMs).
    • Use project phases as foundational moments for building initial client strategies, while optimizing and revising strategies over the client’s lifetime based on overall marketing goals, ongoing campaigns, and historical performance.
    • Work closely with the Associate Director (AsD) when roadblocks arise that impact strategy and goal attainment.
    • Craft creative briefs and compelling content campaigns with a focus on ideation based on competitor and audience insights.
    • Apply best practices to ensure clients are positioned to exceed their goals, including:
      • LTV:CAC modeling
      • Customer Generation
      • Share of SERP
      • Content Production
  • Goal Setting:
    • Use available data to set goals for clients during their engagement period, reviewed and approved by the Associate Director (AsD).
    • Data sources include Google Analytics, CRM data, SEMRush reporting, and Ahrefs reporting.
    • All goals must be approved by the Associate Director (AsD) before presenting to the client.
  • Project Management:
    • Ensure planned strategies are executed by managing tasks for both the Directive team and the client team.
    • Use Asana to delegate tasks to team members (e.g., Specialists) and clients, ensuring timely completion.
    • In pods with Project Managers, partner with them to ensure tasks are created, assigned, and due dates are met.
    • Work closely with content writers and designers to complete content campaigns on time and ensure quality meets client standards.
  • Internal and External Communication:
    • Serve as the main interface between clients and the Directive team, building relationships beyond deliverables to act as a trusted consultant.
    • Proactively communicate with clients and internal leadership to drive results, including:
      • Setting timeline expectations for deliverables.
      • Providing updates on goal attainment progress.
      • Using shared communication channels (e.g., Slack) between bi-weekly meetings.
      • Sending deliverables regularly, not just during bi-weekly meetings.
    • Communicate roadblocks, opportunities for account growth, and moments of change (e.g., strategy shifts, internal client changes, or point of contact changes) to internal leadership.
  • Reporting:
    • Regularly report progress and impact of strategies to clients on the following cadence:
      • Bi-weekly meetings to discuss NSM progress and ongoing deliverables.
      • Monthly reports.
      • Quarterly reports.
      • 2 Bi-Annual business review presentations.
  • Upsells / Cross-sells / Referrals:
    • Identify opportunities for clients to grow their business with Directive, such as:
      • Expanding into another service line (e.g., SEO or Paid Media).
      • Increasing budgets within their current service line (e.g., content, SEO, or Paid Media).
    • Build relationships with clients to naturally encourage referrals, particularly at key moments (e.g., when a point of contact starts a new job or leaves a 5 CSAT score).

Requirements

  • A proven track record of success implementing SEO principles and content strategy, including:
    • Keyword research
    • On-page optimization
    • Link building
  • Analytical insight: ability to analyze website traffic and SEO metrics using tools like Google Analytics.
  • Strong communication skills: comfortable client-facing and owning relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Strong familiarity with industry tools such as:
    • Google Search Console
    • Google Analytics
    • SEMRush
    • Ahrefs
    • Screaming Frog/crawling tools
  • Proven organizational, project, and time management skills.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for digital marketing, SEO, and Content.
  • Must have agency experience.
  • Must have B2B tech and/or SaaS experience.
  • Driven to stay ahead of industry trends, including actively learning how AI and automation can enhance marketing and operations.

  • CSAT: > 4.2

Pay

Compensation for this role includes a competitive base salary in the $75,000–95,000 USD range, commensurate with experience and geography.

Schedule

This is a remote-first role with the ability to work 100% virtually from your home office. Collaboration primarily occurs through virtual meetings (Zoom) and Slack.

Work Environment Requirements

  • Must have reliable internet access and a professional background.
  • Must be able to operate a laptop computer (PC or Mac available) and other office productivity tools.
  • Must be able to remain stationary for extended periods and observe/interpret written and verbal communication.
