About the role

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Sr. Principal Structural Engineer to support the Sentinel program in Roy, Utah. The Sentinel Infrastructure Analysis Team oversees the design and analysis of facilities and related subsystems for the future upgrade to the Minuteman III missile, as well as unique flight test facilities. This role focuses on structural engineering and analysis, including thermal analysis, bolted joint analysis, and welded joint analysis.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, research, and develop structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic, or composite structural materials for product design or operation, including structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, electronics, power plant, armament, heating, ventilating, equipment, and maintenance designs.
• Perform damage tolerance, durability, design allowables, and structural modeling.
• Specialize in structural engineering areas such as dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue, and thermal analysis.
• Utilize tools such as CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer, and various software applications for analysis.
• Conduct modal transient analysis in Nastran (or equivalent).
• Perform vibroacoustic, time domain, frequency domain, and random vibration analysis.
• Collaborate effectively with adjacent disciplines (e.g., systems engineering, aerodynamics, stress analysis, design, test) in a highly integrated team environment.

Requirements

• 8 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor’s in Science; 6 years with a Master’s; 4 years with a PhD.
• Must be a U.S. citizen with an active DoD Secret clearance (investigation date within 6 years).
• Professional knowledge of structures, statics, strength of materials, and structural dynamics principles and methods.
• Proficient in programming and use of MATLAB (or equivalent) for analysis and data manipulation.
• Experience with vibroacoustic analysis.
• Experience with time domain, frequency domain, and/or random vibration analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP).
• Knowledge and/or experience with structural dynamics analysis of spacecraft, aircraft, or missiles.
• Proficiency with ABAQUS, FEMAP, ANSYS, and LS-Dyna.
• Exposure to structural test applications.
• Experience with seismic analysis (ASCE 7).
• Exposure to missile program requirements.
• Ability to navigate through NX 3D models and CPLM, with TeamCenter CPLM experience.
• Experience in structural analysis test applications.
• Experience running dynamic and static analysis.
• Experience with vibroacoustic tools and/or SEA tools such as Wave6 or VA One.
• Experience with launch vehicle, spacecraft, and rocket engine vibroacoustic analysis.

Schedule

This position follows a 9/80 work schedule, allowing employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
