About the role
Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Principal/Sr. Principal Structural Engineer. This position will be located in Roy, UT and will support the Sentinel program. This role may offer a competitive relocation assistance package.
Responsibilities
- Analyzes, researches and develops structural engineering specifications involving metals, non-metallic or composite structural materials for product design, or operation of product to include structures, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and electronics, power plant, armament, heating and ventilating, equipment and maintenance designs.
- Analyzes damage tolerance, durability, design allowables and structural modeling.
- Specific structural engineering specialties may include dynamics and loads, stability and stress fatigue and thermal analysis.
- Utilizes tools such as CATIA, IDEAS, ProEngineer and a variety of software applications.
- Supports the Sentinel Support Equipment team in structural analysis.
Requirements
- This role can be filled at the Principal Structural Engineer (T03) or Sr. Principal Structural Engineer (T04) level.
- Must be a US Citizen with the ability to gain a U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance, or currently hold an active clearance and investigation completed within the last 6 years.
- 2+ Yrs of experience performing static structural analyses and closed form calculations.
- 2+ Yrs of experience with ABAQUS, FEMAP, or ANSYS FEA software.
- 2+ Yrs of experience creating analysis documentation and presenting results to peers and leadership.
Qualifications
- Principal Structural Engineer: Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 5 years of experience, 3 years of experience with Master's degree, or 0 years of experience with PhD.
- Sr. Principal Structural Engineer: Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related experience, or PhD in a STEM discipline with 4 years of experience.
Skills
- Experience navigating Siemens NX CAD and Teamcenter CPLM.
- Experience supporting Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) or other missile design and deployment programs/projects.
- Experience in fast-paced design and analysis environments.
- Exposure to requirements development with systems engineering processes.
- Experience performing dynamic structural analyses (modal, shock, vibration, transient loading).
- Experience in fatigue analysis of steel and aluminum components.
- Excellent teamwork skills and ability to interface with multiple disciplines.
- A history of independently completing tasks and on-the-fly problem solving.
- Advanced or expert proficiency with ANSYS software.

Pay
Annual salary range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00 for the primary level, and $122,800.00 - $184,200.00 for the secondary level.
Schedule
The standard work schedule for this position is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
