About the Role

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is hiring a Principal (level 3) or Sr. Principal (level 4) Systems Engineer to join its team in Roy, Utah, supporting the Sentinel Program. This role contributes to the Air Force’s sustainment, development, production, and deployment of hardware and system modifications for Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) Ground and Airborne Launch Control Systems, Launch Facilities, and associated infrastructure.

The successful candidate will join the Sentinel Systems Engineering, Integration, & Test (SEIT) Business Unit’s System Integration & Sustainment (SIS) Operating Unit, specifically the Weapon System Integration (WSI) team. This multi-tiered and multi-disciplined team assesses design compatibilities across the Weapon System (WS) Segment teams, serving as objective integrators to ensure requirement definition influences design decisions for full-lifecycle capability effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Support engineering processes and analyses in specific product team designs to prove successful design integration and analyze for potential gaps at a high level.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership and foundational systems engineering skills to drive process and technical gap resolution of interface and requirement design solutions, achieving program and contract objectives.
  • Foster engagement across diverse teams, including mentoring and coaching, ensuring appropriate coordination between SEIT and other integration teams.
  • Participate in technical planning, verification and validation development, cost and risk considerations, and requirements analyses for program integrated systems.

Requirements

Principal Systems Engineer (Level 3)

  • Active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance (current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 5 years of related experience (3 years with a Master’s, 1 year with a PhD).
  • 2+ years of experience in Systems Engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience on large-scale/complex aerospace/defense system development across multiple lifecycle phases: preliminary design, detailed design, integration and test, verification and sell-off, transition to production.
  • 2+ years of direct development experience with interface products (Interface Requirements Specification (IRS), Interface Design Description (IDD), Interface Control Document (ICD)) and requirement specifications.
  • 1+ years of experience in developing and executing Systems Engineering process governance documentation in a DoD Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase and/or Risk Management.
  • 1+ years of experience in creating, updating, and maintaining requirements specifications in Dynamic Object-Oriented Requirements System (DOORS).

Sr. Principal Systems Engineer (Level 4)

  • Active U.S. Government DoD Secret security clearance (current and within scope, with an investigation date within the last 6 years).
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university with 8 years of related experience (6 years with a Master’s, 4 years with a PhD).
  • 5+ years of experience on large-scale/complex aerospace/defense system development across multiple lifecycle phases: preliminary design, detailed design, integration and test, verification and sell-off, transition to production.
  • 3+ years of experience in Systems Engineering.
  • 3+ years of direct development experience with interface products (Interface Requirements Specification (IRS), Interface Design Description (IDD), Interface Control Document (ICD)).
  • 2+ years of experience in developing and executing Systems Engineering process governance documentation in a DoD Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase and/or Risk Management.
  • 1+ years of experience in team environments with technical leadership responsibilities, including leading large groups of engineers, briefing program leadership, and driving program execution.
  • 1+ years of experience in creating, updating, and maintaining requirements specifications in DOORS.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in ICBMs (MMIII or Sentinel).
  • Mechanical Design Integration (MDI) and/or Interface Control Model (ICM) development experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership principles: integrity, respect, organizational and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in analytical thinking, problem-solving, and systems thinking.
  • Experience with creating and executing schedule and technical recovery plans.
  • Experience working across program organizations to find solutions.
  • Past/active employment with MMIII or Sentinel Weapon Systems.
  • Experience contributing to various phases of a program lifecycle and the Systems Engineering “V” lifecycle.
  • Experience with developing architectural diagrams.
  • Earned Value Management (EVM) experience.
  • Experience or working knowledge in specialty fields such as Cyber, Nuclear Surety, Thermal, Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (EEE), or Nuclear Hardness & Survivability (NH&S).

Pay

Primary Level (Principal Systems Engineer) Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00.

Secondary Level (Sr. Principal Systems Engineer) Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00.

Base salary offers consider scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s experience, education, skills, and current market conditions. Additional compensation may include overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses. Annual bonuses reward individual contributions and company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.

Schedule

This position follows a 9/80 work schedule, allowing employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
