Primary work location: 5805 N Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX 78752. Hybrid schedule: on-site and telework.
Schedule
Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding State holidays when the agency is closed. Some nights and weekends as needed.
Requirements
- 15 years of Java experience (required)
- 10 years of SQL database experience (required)
- 8 years of sustaining and development experience in support of large applications in a team environment (required)
- 5 years of Linux experience (required)
- 8 years of Atlassian tool suite experience, especially JIRA (required)
- 8 years of Agile methodology experience (required)
- 2 years of experience with State of Texas applications; experience with Texas Department of Public Safety environment (preferred)
- 2 years of experience transitioning applications from legacy mainframe environments to Java/SQL environment (preferred)
- Must be a US Citizen, EAD, or Green Card Holder
Responsibilities
- Oversee the coding, testing, and debugging of programs as outlined by a system’s technical and functional requirements
- Oversee the preparation of test data
- Oversee the development of and/or prepare flowcharts and diagrams
- Oversee the preparation of and/or prepare instructions for use during production runs
- Coordinate the preparation and development of instructions or manuals for end users
- Lead and coordinate the research and analysis required for project proposals, software and systems modifications, and new projects
- Analyze proposed computer applications in terms of equipment requirements and capabilities
- Evaluate database schemas, write and run SQL code, and deploy packages/triggers
- Review and revise programs to increase operating efficiency or to adapt new procedures
- Analyze logs, system messages, thread connectivity, memory utilization, disk input/output, and disk space to troubleshoot application issues
- Confer with staff members to schedule work and coordinate programming projects
- Prepare detailed analyses, plans, diagrams, and verification procedures for existing and proposed computer applications
- Develop standards and procedures for programming staff, and related interfaces and reports
- Develop and implement specialized programs to supplement and enhance systems software
- Recommend, coordinate, and implement changes to improve application and overall system performance
- Create and maintain backup and restore processes to ensure business continuity
- Coordinate, assign, and track the work of others
- Attend work regularly and observe approved work hours in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies
