About the role
The Senior Workday Payroll Analyst serves as the technical and functional subject matter expert for Workday Payroll and related HCM processes. This role supports all aspects of HR Information Technology, including business process configuration, reporting, and day-to-day technology support for the Human Resources and Payroll teams. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment and collaborates across teams. This position is based in Arlington, VA, with an on-site schedule Monday-Thursday and remote work on Friday.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the technical SME for Workday Payroll and related modules including HCM, Time Tracking, Absence, Benefits, Compensation, and Security.
- Configure and maintain payroll-related business processes, earning and deduction codes, pay groups, payroll calculations, validations, and controls.
- Support payroll processing activities, including payroll audits, reconciliations, and issue resolution.
- Partner with Payroll and Finance teams to ensure accurate payroll calculations and downstream financial impacts.
- Lead advanced configuration including business process frameworks (BPF), calculated fields, condition rules, validation rules, and security policies.
- Own tenant health, configuration consistency, and adherence to Workday best practices.
- Analyze work processes with an eye on efficiency, quality, and data-driven decision making.
- Coordinate regression testing, feature enablement, and production deployments.
- Recommend adoption of new Workday features based on business value.
- Maintain documentation for configuration, integrations, and processes.
- Support audits and respond to data access reviews.
- Evaluate future Workday enhancements and modules, recommend usage, and support implementation.
- Lead the planning and execution of Workday projects, business requirements, business processes, workflows, system configuration, and security optimization.
- Identify opportunities within existing processes and implement scalable solutions.
- Establish processes/controls to maintain data integrity for critical fields feeding into other systems.
- Serve as a liaison between HR and other functions that use Workday as the system of record.
- Provide Tier 2 / Tier 3 support for complex Workday issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement sustainable fixes.
- Manage incidents, service requests, and problem tickets within SLAs.
- Proactively identify and resolve system risks or performance issues.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Human Resources, or a related field from an accredited, not-for-profit, in-person college/university.
- 5+ years of relevant experience, including 3+ years of experience with Workday.
- Highly proficient in configuring Workday Payroll, Time Tracking, Absence, Compensation, Security, and Reporting tools.
- Exposure and understanding of compliance including SOX as it relates to the HR Technology function.
- Excellent technical aptitude and organizational skills.
- Leadership in managing and executing test plans, including unit (UT) and user acceptance testing (UAT).
- Cross-functional knowledge of HR processes and touch points in Workday Payroll, Time Tracking, Absence, Compensation, and Core HCM.
- Maturity to handle and work hands-on with confidential data.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Pay
Base Compensation: $114,900.00 - $169,900.00 Annually
Schedule
On-site Monday-Thursday, Remote Friday
