SENIOR WEED ABATEMENT WORKER

About the role

The Department of Agricultural Commissioner/Weights and Measures seeks a Senior Weed Abatement Worker to join our team. This position leads a crew of workers, provides on-the-job training, coordinates clearing operations, inspects properties, estimates costs, transports tools, maintains equipment, performs abatement tasks, communicates with various stakeholders, and prepares reports.

Responsibilities

• Provides direction to crew members, monitors and coordinates their work, and tracks hours.
• Identifies training needs, develops plans, monitors progress, and provides feedback to ensure all crew members are competent to perform work safely and effectively.
• Coordinates clearing operations, evaluates performance, and ensures work meets County standards.
• Promotes safety practices and procedures, sets examples, and communicates departmental rules and regulations.
• Inspects properties, gathers information, identifies hazards, determines work extent, prevents damage, assesses resources, and verifies cost estimates.
• Estimates costs for weed, brush, and combustible materials abatement.
• Maintains tools and equipment, cleans, lubricates, sharpens, and conducts minor repairs.
• Performs abatement tasks using hand and power tools.
• Communicates with supervisors, crews, property owners, vendors, and other agencies.
• Prepares detailed written reports.

Requirements

• One year of full-time outdoor work experience in the eradication and control of weeds, brush, or other vegetation.
• One year of full-time outdoor work experience in a lead capacity over manual laborers performing eradication and control of weeds, brush, or other vegetation.
• A valid California Class C Driver's License.

Special Requirement Information

• Part-time experience will be considered based on proration.
• Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek.
• Positions spend no more than 50 percent of the time performing similar duties as the positions that they lead.

Physical Class IV - Arduous

This class involves frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working above ground on irregular surfaces. Positions occasionally demand extraordinary physical activity such as those in Safety positions.

Examination Content

This examination will consist of an Evaluation of Experience based on the application information weighted 100%. Candidates must meet the Requirements and receive a passing score of 70% or higher on this examination to be placed on the eligible Register.

Eligibility Information

Applications will be processed as they are received, and candidates will be added to the list accordingly. Individuals who successfully pass the assessment(s) are placed on a list based on their score group for a duration of twelve (12) months. We will use this list to fill vacancies as they occur. No person may compete in this examination more than once every twelve (12) months.

The list of successful candidates created from this examination will be used to fill TEMPORARY and PERMANENT vacancies throughout the County of Los Angeles in the Department of Agricultural Commissioner/Weights and Measures as they occur.
