Senior Water Resources Engineer
Brief Description
LJB Inc. is a national engineering firm with more than 50 years of experience in civil and structural engineering, geospatial, safety, health, and environmental services. LJB Inc. is seeking a Senior Water Resources Engineer to help grow our Water Resources Practice in North Carolina. This role supports a varied client base and is based in Charlotte, Raleigh, or Kernersville, NC, with remote or hybrid options available for candidates located in North Carolina.
Essential Functions
- Lead the planning and design of a wide range of water resources and civil infrastructure projects, including:
- Stream and wetland restoration
- Dam remediation
- FEMA floodplain analyses and permitting (No-Rise, LOMR, CLOMR)
- Culvert and bridge replacement
- Stormwater planning and design
- Watershed studies and asset management
- Site/civil development and public utility design
- Programmatic engineering support
- Manage and deliver engineering projects from concept development through final design, permitting, and construction support.
- Oversee project scope, schedule, and budget, ensuring high-quality and timely deliverables.
- Interface with clients, stakeholders, and public agencies to build and maintain strong professional relationships.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including CAD designers, EITs, and GIS technicians, to develop comprehensive engineering solutions.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior staff.
Additional Responsibilities
- Travel occasionally to client sites across the U.S. as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in water resources.
- PE license required, or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Minimum of 8 years of relevant engineering experience.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, or equivalent software.
- Strong background in hydrologic and hydraulic modeling (2D modeling experience preferred).
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal stormwater management regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus in Water Resources.
- Familiarity with GIS tools and applications.
- Experience with NCDOT standards and hydraulic-related pre-qualifications.
- Demonstrated client/project management experience.
