About the role
This role is based out of the Houston office with some travel to the College Station, TX Water Design Center (WDC).
Responsibilities
- Lead wastewater process direction, design, and decision-making in the Water Design Center, region, and across the Garver Water footprint.
- Work with and mentor other engineers on your team and within the Water Design Centers to continue to propel growth and quality.
- Take a lead process role ranging from client interaction and project pursuit to conceptual level process work including modeling and master planning, and through final design as it is warranted on projects in the Central region, as well as across our Garver footprint.
- Help grow Garver’s Process engineering capabilities and resume as we continue to do quality work for our clients.
Day to day responsibilities
- Support regional teams with treatment related business development activities.
- Be known as an industry leader in WWTP design and technologies.
- Develop conceptual level designs for wastewater treatment systems.
- Coordinate with process mechanical team for detailed design services for treatment facilities.
- Perform modeling and design calculations, coordinate with other support discipline activities on projects, coordinate with regional Garver offices and regulatory agencies, conduct construction cost estimating, and ensure quality assurance and control.
- Lead some projects from an internal Design Phase Manager standpoint on specific projects, coordinating schedules, monitoring project budgets, and ensuring delivery of quality work products which adhere to Garver standardization.
- Regularly collaborate with Water Technology Team and other Garver process experts to develop best practices and areas of focus.
- Participate in client meetings, industry conferences, and serve as a subject matter expert for the Water Business Line.
Additional responsibilities
- Assist in recruiting top talent for the process team.
- Develop scope, schedule, level of effort, and fees for projects.
- Mentor process and process mechanical team members.
- Drive the detailed design through coordination with other support disciplines.
- Plan, manage, and execute process staff and workload.
- Develop detailed plans and specifications.
- Ensure delivery of quality work products that adhere to Garver standardization.
- Process standards and tools development, procurement, and training.
- Help prepare Garver Water, the WDCs and your team for the future.
- Perform quality reviews for projects across the Garver footprint.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license or with the ability to be licensed.
- 10+ years of municipal water/wastewater process related design experience.
- 2+ years of experience leading design projects.
- Process modeling software experience such as Hydromatis GPS-X, Dynamita Sumo, and/or EnviroSim BioWin.
Preferred Skills
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license in several states.
- 15+ years of municipal water/wastewater process related design experience.
- 5+ years of experience leading design projects.
- Relationships with municipal clients in WDC footprint.
- Experience using hydraulic modeling software.
- Proven experience overseeing process designs, including detailed plans and specifications for major projects.
- Overall understanding of wastewater treatment plant systems in a campus-wide environment.
- Experience using Bluebeam and MS Office products, including Excel, Outlook and Word.
- Demonstrated experience performing process equipment evaluation, sizing and cost estimating.
- Cost estimation experience.
- Affiliation and active participation with water/wastewater organizations such as AWWA, WEF, WRF.
- Use of AutoCad and/or Revit CAD programs.
- Experience in giving presentations for clients and professional organizations.
- Strong teaching and coaching skills to mentor and communicate with team members of all levels.
