While we service clients nationally and internationally, Leap Group has a footprint in the Midwest, with offices in: Louisville, KY; Cincinnati, OH; Indianapolis, IN; Chicago, IL. Who is the Senior UX Designer?
The Senior/Lead UX Designer is a strategic, research-driven design leader who creates intuitive, user-centered digital experiences across web and mobile platforms. This role goes far beyond creating polished interfaces. You'll build a deep understanding of our users through research, translate insights into thoughtful product experiences, and partner across disciplines to ensure every design decision is grounded in real customer needs. You'll help shape product strategy by identifying opportunities, validating ideas through research and testing, and continuously improving experiences based on user feedback and data. The ideal candidate combines strong UX research skills with exceptional interaction design, systems thinking, and the ability to communicate design decisions clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
In This Role, You Can Expect To
- Lead with User Understanding: Own the discovery process by planning and conducting user interviews, usability tests, surveys, and contextual research to build a deep, evolving understanding of our users and their needs. Synthesize research findings into personas, journey maps, and actionable insights that inform product and business decisions. Identify unmet needs, friction points, and moments of delight across the customer journey, translating those findings into meaningful design opportunities. Champion the voice of the user in roadmap planning and prioritization discussions, supporting recommendations with evidence rather than opinion.
- Design and Deliver: Design and deliver engaging, user-centered experiences that measurably improve customer satisfaction. Develop user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and detailed design specifications that carry research insights from discovery through implementation. Validate design decisions through iterative testing, treating every release as an opportunity to learn, refine, and improve. Ensure consistency by contributing to and maintaining design systems across digital products and platforms.
- Collaborate and Lead: Partner with cross-functional teams, including Product, Engineering, and Marketing, to develop visual and interaction design solutions grounded in user research and insight. Mentor fellow designers and help elevate user-centered design practices across the team. Present and advocate for design decisions and user needs to stakeholders at all levels, clearly connecting user insights to business outcomes.
What Do You Need?
- 8+ years of professional experience in user experience design.
- Demonstrated expertise in user research. Candidates should be able to walk us through how they built an understanding of users on past projects, why they selected specific research methods, and how those insights influenced the final product.
- Advanced proficiency in Figma, supported by a portfolio showcasing end-to-end UX case studies across web, mobile, and application interfaces.
- Strong experience creating user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and detailed design specifications.
- Experience planning, conducting, or directing user research and usability testing, with the ability to translate findings into meaningful design improvements.
- Strong understanding of scalable design systems, preferably within large-scale organizations.
- Experience incorporating AI tools into UX research, ideation, or design workflows.
- Ability to translate user research into product strategy and practical design solutions.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with experience presenting and advocating for design decisions and user needs to cross-functional stakeholders.
- Experience collaborating closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and Marketing teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design principles.
- Comfortable working in ambiguous problem spaces, with the ability to define the right questions before designing the right solutions.
What We Value?
- Curiosity about people. You ask why users behave the way they do, and you keep asking until the answer is genuinely understood.
- Evidence over ego. You hold your designs loosely and let user feedback reshape them.
- Craft with purpose. Beautiful interfaces matter, but only when they solve the right problem for the right person.
Important note: if you think you have what it takes to be a great in this role but don't necessarily meet all of these qualifications, please still apply! While we work hard to eliminate unnecessary requirements from our job ads, our teams and needs are constantly evolving, and we'd always love the opportunity to connect and see what might be a fit.
