Senior Underwriter, Property Large Commercial (East Zone)
About the role
As a Senior Underwriter, Property, you will deliver a profitable underwriting service to clients. You will underwrite business within the agreed business plan and individual authority, support business planning and forecasting, monitor financial exposure and premium income, maintain awareness of claims, ensure adequate reinsurance, build and maintain relationships with brokers and clients, and support the design and structure of risks.
Responsibilities
- Underwrite and service a renewal book and produce new business in accordance with business unit goals.
- Develop and manage underwriting strategies for renewals and targets within your portfolio.
- Represent AXA XL in client meetings with senior Fortune 500 and broker executives.
- Calculate appropriate risk premium, exercise discretion and judgment in risk analysis and evaluation.
- Participate in roundtable discussions on risk assessment.
- Negotiate with producers within delegated authority to achieve profit objectives.
- Build and enhance relationships with brokers and clients; identify and establish new distribution relationships.
- Maintain expertise in products, services, priorities, and target markets to help clients uncover hidden risks.
- Promote the company’s expertise by participating in industry conferences and events.
- Maintain compliance with internal and external underwriting guidelines and legal requirements.
- Support business planning and forecasting; monitor financial exposure and premium income.
- Maintain awareness of all claims advised and provide input on settlement.
- Identify and drive new product development opportunities.
- Cross-market with other AXA XL lines; meet with brokers and insureds as required.
- Cultivate key broker relationships to maintain a steady stream of business within underwriting appetite.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment, assisting underwriters, assistants, and management.
You will report to the Property Underwriting Manager.
Requirements
- Extensive underwriting experience with large property and multinational accounts.
- Large Commercial Property insurance experience required.
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).
- Demonstrated technical knowledge and skills, including product and industry expertise.
- Ability to represent AXA XL with professionalism, gravitas, and sound judgment.
- Robust analytical, problem-solving, sales, and marketing abilities.
- Strong organizational, time-management, and multitasking skills with an outstanding work ethic.
- Ability to develop and understand business processes, strategy, and planning.
- Ability to work self-directed and respond to a changing environment with flexibility and innovation.
- Strong customer service and negotiation skills.

Pay
The U.S. base salary range for this position is USD 107,600 – 209,100. Actual pay will be determined based on skills, experience, and location.
