Senior Underwriter
Position Summary
The Senior Underwriter will be a contributing member of the Commercial Underwriting team and will be viewed as a subject matter expert in a variety of industries and loan structures. This individual should have a diverse underwriting background with knowledge in C & I, CRE, OORE, NOORE, Private Wealth and Corporate Banking.
Essential Functions
- Prepares credit packages and loan offerings for all types of transactions at any level of complexity or in management of a portfolio as assigned.
- Serves as a subject matter expert for certain asset classes and may represent or lead department on special projects or assignments.
- Supports various lending departments including: Community Bank, C & I, CRE and Private Bank.
- Performs independent credit analysis and risk assessment on larger more complex credit relationships in a timely and efficient manner.
- Provides recommendations on credit structuring and interacts with internal and external clients.
- Prioritizes multiple tasks to meet customer deadlines while ensuring the credit integrity of the transaction.
- Proactively identifies and delivers process improvements and helps establish best practices for the team.
- Aids in the training and development of other more junior underwriters.
- Attends in-person client calls with the Line of Business to gain a better understanding of the lending relationship and proposed transactions.
- Displays recognized leadership capacity and serves as a credit resource throughout the Bank.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Job Type
This is a full-time, exempt position. Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This position uses office equipment such as computers, phones, copy and fax machines, calculators, filing cabinets and printers.
Physical Demands
This position will be responsible for writing, typing, speaking, listening, lifting (up to 50 pounds), driving, carrying, seeing (such as close, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and adjusted focus), sitting, pulling, walking, standing, squatting, kneeling and reaching.
Mental Demands
The incumbent in this position must be able to accommodate to reading documents or instruments, detailed work, problem solving, customer contact, reasoning, math, language, presentations, verbal and written communication, analytical reasoning, stress, multiple concurrent tasks and constant interruptions.
Education and Experience
Role requires a business degree preferably in Corporate Finance or Accounting and 7 + years of underwriting or commercial banking experience. Thorough knowledge of financial statement analysis and demonstrated ability to identify and mitigate key risks.
