About the role

Under the direction of a Supervising Transportation Surveyor, the Senior Transportation Surveyor provides leadership of the Mapping Unit within the Caltrans District 7 Office of Surveys. The incumbent will lead a staff that creates alignments and record documents, manages consultant work, and creates other products to effectively deliver the Department’s transportation program.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and direct the work of staff or consultants; judge work quality and performance.
  • Analyze situations objectively and adopt effective courses of action.
  • Produce highway alignments, analyze field surveys, direct field crews, and prepare necessary documents required as a professional land surveyor.
  • Supervise a diverse staff of technical professionals.
  • Manage tasks to support project delivery; solve problems adaptably during fluid situations.
  • Build productive relationships with internal and external entities; communicate information clearly, accurately, and concisely.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid California Land Surveyors' License. (A Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors prior to January 1, 1982 satisfies this requirement.)
  • Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) required, addressing five specific areas of demonstrated ability (see posting for details).
  • Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Senior Transportation Surveyor exam. New-to-state candidates must be on the state examination list.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment. If basing eligibility on education, unofficial transcript(s)/diploma must be provided for verification. Applicants with foreign transcripts/degrees must provide a U.S. equivalency report evaluation.

Pay

$11,437.00 - $14,315.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
