Senior Traffic Engineer - Design

Overview

VHB is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer with solid design experience to join their transportation consulting practice in Connecticut. This role offers the opportunity to develop, analyze, and evaluate traffic improvements, as well as participate in transportation planning, safety, and engineering solutions for multimodal transportation projects.

Responsibilities

• Develop, analyze, and evaluate traffic improvements including traffic signals and roundabouts
• Develop traffic and transportation planning, safety, and engineering solutions for multimodal transportation projects
• Conduct safety engineering analysis, including design and operational focused analysis
• Design traffic control devices
• Design work zone traffic control
• Develop intersection design
• Use guidance within the MUTCD to prepare and oversee traffic signal warrant analyses
• Attend and lead meetings with transportation agencies and private developers
• Prepare and participate in presentations to the client team
• Prepare and review technical memoranda and reports
• Mentor junior team members

Skills & Abilities

• A strong background in traffic engineering and task management
• Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills
• Strong writing skills for proposals, technical reports and memoranda
• The ability to balance multiple concurrent assignments
• Final Design Plan Development

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of professional transportation/traffic design engineering experience required, depending on level of education
• Proficiency in Synchro required
• Proficiency in MicroStation and/or AutoCAD required
• Vissim modeling capabilities a plus
• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required
• Master’s degree a plus (may substitute for 1 year of experience)
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required
• PETE (Professional Traffic Operations Engineer) certification a plus

Pay

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Springfield, MA is $100,000 to $125,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
