About the role
A Senior Tooling Technician at FTI is responsible for machining, fabricating, and maintaining custom tooling, fixtures, and equipment used in production. This role serves as the department’s technical expert in machining and fabrication processes, providing backup support for maintenance activities to ensure safe and efficient plant operations.
Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with engineering, production, and maintenance teams to evaluate tooling needs and identify improvements.
- Maintain accurate documentation of fabrication work, repairs, materials used, and project timelines.
- Assist in training junior technicians in basic machining or fabrication skills.
- Complete special projects and continuous improvement initiatives as assigned.
- Uphold company safety standards and participate actively in safety programs.

Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; technical diploma/certification in machining, manufacturing technology, industrial maintenance, or related field preferred.
- Experience: 3–5 years of experience in machining, fabrication, or tool/fixture building in a manufacturing environment. Experience in general industrial maintenance preferred.
- Machining proficiency (manual mill/lathe required; CNC experience a plus).
- Ability to design from concept using hand sketches or simple CAD (preferred but not required).
Qualifications
- Travel: 0-5%
- Work Schedule: Typical work hours are between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday. Overtime may be required.
Skills
- Collaborative problem-solving
- Technical expertise in machining and fabrication processes
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Basic CAD proficiency (hand sketches or simple CAD)
- Welding and fabrication using MIG/TIG/stick processes
- Preventive maintenance and repairs on molds, dies, fixtures, and cutting tools
- Troubleshooting tooling-related issues
- Inspection of tools for wear, damage, and dimensional accuracy
- Modification and fabrication of tooling components
