The Therapeutic Area Specialist (TAS) is a critical role in our unique customer model, executing the BMS aspiration to deliver impactful engagement with Health Care Providers (HCPs) and drive adoption of new and existing medicines for appropriate patients.

The TAS engages HCPs with a differentiated Customer Experience (Cx) through deeper scientific dialogue, leveraging new ways of working and CE3. This role builds and maintains strong professional credibility with regional thought leaders (RTLs) and community-based physicians/HCPs, serving as their primary point of contact. The TAS liaises with other BMS functions to deliver an overall higher Customer Experience by meeting HCP needs in a timely and scientific manner, prioritizing the safe and appropriate use of BMS products while focusing on business results and performance objectives. This role is field-based, with 100% of time spent in the field with external customers.

Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Promotion
    • Promotes approved indications of BMS products within a defined territory or region to meet or exceed assigned sales targets in a compliant manner.
    • Creates demand for BMS medicines by articulating the clinical and scientific rationale for use of products in appropriate patients.
    • Engages with and maintains a high level of scientific expertise in all assigned products and therapeutic areas.
    • Prepares and implements comprehensive territory and account plans.
    • Proactively uses tools such as CE3 to derive insights and dynamically inform call plans.
    • Provides feedback on tool usage to leadership for continuous improvement.
  • Fair & Balanced Scientific Dialogue
    • Demonstrates scientific expertise and passion using approved resources to present information to HCPs, ensuring medical accuracy.
    • Conducts in-office presentations (e.g., lunch and learns) and discusses product-related scientific information consistent with label.
    • Organizes external speaker programs, selecting speakers from the approved Speakers Bureau and facilitating scheduling and logistics.
    • Maintains expertise on emerging data for approved indications.
    • Engages real-time medical support through Medical on Call to answer unsolicited questions and complex technical inquiries.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
    • Proactively collaborates with other field teams to ensure the best Customer Experience (Cx) for HCPs.
    • Gathers and shares relevant insights and information internally with appropriate stakeholders.
    • Complies with all laws, regulations, and policies governing BMS conduct.

Requirements

  • Advanced scientific degree and/or preferred 5+ years of pharmaceutical or biotechnology experience in healthcare sales, MSL, HCP, or nursing roles.
  • Ability to communicate scientific or clinical data accurately and convincingly to help physicians best serve their patients.
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining strong credibility with key customers, office staff, and others in the customer influence network.
  • Experience in cardiovascular preferred.
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales goals with strong account management and selling competencies.
  • Ability to work effectively cross-functionally with a positive team mindset.

As this position requires the operation of a Company-provided vehicle, offers of employment are contingent upon meeting the requirements of a "Qualified Driver," including being at least 21 years of age, holding a driver’s license in good standing, and having a driving risk level deemed acceptable by the Company.

Pay

Field - United States - US $133,600 - $161,916. The starting compensation range is for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate considers required skills, job location, work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.

      • Additional time off may include unlimited paid sick time, up to 2 paid volunteer days per year, summer hours flexibility, leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, and military needs, and an annual Global Shutdown between Christmas and New Year’s Day.

All global full- and part-time employees actively employed and paid directly by BMS at the end of the calendar year are eligible for the Global Shutdown. The summer hours program is available for U.S. office-based employees, with eligibility varying based on role and location.
