About the Role

As a Senior Test Engineer, you will lead testing efforts on complex software projects, designing and executing comprehensive test strategies. You will mentor junior engineers, perform advanced testing (manual and automated), and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure products meet functional, performance, and security requirements. Your experience will enable you to identify risks, propose improvements in testing processes, and ensure software quality is consistently maintained throughout the development lifecycle while maximizing testing efficiency through automation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Test Plans and Strategies: Lead the creation and execution of test plans and strategies to minimize production defects, ensuring they are comprehensive, well-documented, and aligned with project goals. Assess and estimate time, resources, and effort required for testing activities to support project timelines and deliverables. Incorporate an automation-first approach to maximize coverage and efficiency for medium-sized features.
  • Design and Execute Test Cases: Design and create reproducible complex cross-functional test cases for a variety of test types, ensuring all software requirements are covered comprehensively. Take ownership of end-to-end testing for complex projects and ensure effective execution.
  • Perform Manual and Automated Testing: Lead both manual and automated testing efforts for multiple small features to ensure high-quality coverage across all phases of testing. Collaborate with the team to continually improve automated testing practices and coverage.
  • Documentation for Process and Bug Reports: Create complex test cases, document test results, and provide detailed bug reports with analysis. Ensure test cases and bug reports are easy to follow, up-to-date, and reproducible for large-sized features to maintain overall quality.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to clarify complex requirements, including upstream and downstream functional areas. Ensure all features meet quality standards and software requirements across the product. Facilitate and guide UAT activities.
  • Continuous Improvement: Implement and drive continuous improvement practices in quality assurance. Lead small process improvement initiatives in your functional area. Use data and metrics to identify inefficiencies and propose solutions to enhance testing processes and software quality.
  • Continuous Learning: Research and evaluate new testing tools, techniques, and methodologies. Recommend and help integrate innovative solutions to improve testing effectiveness. Mentor junior engineers in adopting new tools.
  • Mentor Team Members: Mentor and coach junior and mid-level test engineers to develop their skills and improve testing practices. Encourage knowledge-sharing and foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Act as the primary problem-solver for testing roadblocks, taking proactive action to resolve issues that may impact test schedules or quality. Escalate when necessary but lead solutions with related teams.
  • Test Strategy Review: Lead the review and improvement of test strategies to ensure alignment with project goals and technical constraints. Propose adjustments to ensure complete test coverage and efficiency.
  • Test Case Review: Review test cases for completeness and accuracy, ensuring alignment with project requirements and use cases for smaller teams. Provide constructive feedback on test case design, coverage, and execution.
  • Monitor and Analyze Testing Metrics: Continuously track, analyze, and interpret testing metrics to assess effectiveness and quality. Enhance testing processes, test coverage, and defect management based on data.
  • Drive and Develop Test Engineering Strategies and Policies: Create and implement test strategies, policies, and standards. Contribute ideas for improving testing processes, including adopting new tools and techniques. Ensure team adherence to established quality assurance practices.
  • Test Automation Effectiveness and Coverage: Collaborate with the Software Engineering in Test (SET) team to define and prioritize automation, ensuring the team leverages automation to maximize testing efficiency and improve coverage.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or other related fields, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum: 5+ years of industry experience, independently working on small/medium projects, and mentoring junior testing engineers.
    • Preferred: 5 or more years of experience with manual and automation testing, including familiarity with Java or Python, and testing APIs and web/mobile applications.

Skills

  • Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Handle complex troubleshooting and problem resolution across multiple systems. Utilize strong analytical skills to identify root causes and propose effective solutions. Take initiative to resolve cross-functional issues.
  • Requirements Analysis: Analyze complex product requirements and define testing approaches independently. Partner with stakeholders to ensure all aspects of requirements are covered by testing, addressing ambiguities and gaps.
  • Automation Scripting: Write and maintain automated test scripts using tools like Selenium, TestNG, or similar.
  • API Testing: Strong experience with API testing, including using tools like Postman or SoapUI for validating functionality and performance.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills. Execute task-specific collaboration, convey precise technical details, respond to immediate issues, and ensure clarity in resolving task-level challenges.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility: Lead adaptation to changing requirements, code designs, implementation changes, new technologies, and shifting priorities, workstyles, and responsibilities.
  • Time Management: Manage large, complex testing projects with multiple dependencies. Coordinate priorities effectively across teams and ensure deadlines are met, even in high-pressure environments.
  • Product Knowledge: Strong understanding of domain-specific knowledge and business requirements, influencing testing direction to align with strategic goals and provide tangible value to the organization.
  • Testing Methodologies: Advanced knowledge of a wide range of testing types, including complex test scenarios and automation techniques. Lead test strategy decisions and implement best practices across multiple testing methodologies.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail, consistently identifying subtle issues and potential improvements that may affect product quality or user experience.
  • Defect Tracking and Documentation Tools: Extensive experience with defect tracking tools like JIRA and Confluence, including driving the resolution process and escalating critical defects.
