Senior Technology Consultant
Anderson Computing & Information Services (ACIS) provides information and technology services to the Anderson School of Management. The Anderson Technology Consultant delivers hands-on support to approximately 400 faculty and staff and 2,000 students across various academic programs, focusing on hardware, software, and A/V equipment in classrooms, learning spaces, offices, and conference rooms.
About the role
The Technology Consultant operates as part of the Client Support Services (CSS) team, providing second-tier support at the ACIS Helpdesk. Responsibilities include resolving technical issues, monitoring service tickets, operating A/V systems, and training users. The role involves close collaboration with internal ACIS teams to ensure prompt resolution of technology-related inquiries and requests.
Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on technical support for faculty, staff, and students, including troubleshooting hardware, software, and A/V equipment.
- Set up, configure, test, and troubleshoot computers, networks, A/V systems, and software in classrooms, learning spaces, and offices.
- Monitor and respond to service tickets, classroom hotline calls, and email inquiries.
- Operate and maintain A/V systems, including projection equipment, microphones, video cameras, and speakers.
- Research, evaluate, implement, and deploy technology solutions for instructional and operational needs.
- Manage and participate in classroom and technology upgrade projects, including staff, faculty, and student devices.
- Provide training and documentation for Anderson and guest users on supported technology.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to understand course objectives and technical requirements.
- Program with APIs and various languages to integrate systems and data.
- Lift and move equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
Requirements
- Minimum of three years of technical service experience.
- Strong customer service orientation with the ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, students, staff, vendors, and suppliers.
- Ability to handle high-difficulty customer service situations calmly, courteously, and efficiently.
- Skill in active listening, probing with knowledgeable questions, and guiding users to effective solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal English, explaining technical details clearly and concisely.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing competing priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to learn new skills in response to a changing work environment and expand knowledge on relevant issues.
- Detailed knowledge of PC and Mac software applications, including Microsoft Office, web browsers, video conferencing, email, and common hardware peripherals.
- Working knowledge of software installations, testing procedures, and troubleshooting for networked and single-user systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware problems and replace parts as necessary.
- Working knowledge of mobile devices, operating systems (Android and iOS), and applications like Office Mobile.
- Detailed knowledge of mobile devices, screen casting, and connectivity issues.
- Ability to anticipate and solve potential computer, network, and A/V system problems using diagnostic tools.
- Demonstrated ability to employ logical troubleshooting methodology and explain procedures to clients.
- Detailed knowledge of projection and audio/visual equipment, including microphones, video cameras, and speakers.
- Ability to schedule, prioritize, and complete tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
- Familiarity with Anderson School faculty research and instructional needs (preferred).
- Demonstrated ability to program with APIs and integrate systems and data (required).
Pay
UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors such as budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, and certifications. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common.
