About the role

The Senior Technician is a heavy equipment mechanic specializing in the modernization and repair of cranes. This position performs routine maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and upgrades, as well as solving complex problems when cranes malfunction. The role requires self-sufficiency, leadership, effective communication, and professionalism to lead field technicians and serve as a liaison between HCSG management and customers. The position operates in a safety-first environment and may require on-call, after-hours, or weekend work to meet customer needs.

Responsibilities

  • Be on-call and provide after-hours services as required.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, inspect, and upgrade industrial hoists and cranes in the field at customer locations.
  • Train and mentor field technicians.
  • Perform OSHA-required hoist and crane inspections and generate inspection reports and repair orders.
  • Communicate with the Service Manager and Branch Manager to schedule and complete daily work.
  • Consult with customers regarding repair and safety issues and provide recommendations to improve their services.
  • Maintain all company-issued equipment, vehicles, and assets in safe and proper working order.
  • Operate tools, equipment, and vehicles safely and responsibly; report deficiencies to supervisors.
  • Maintain a supply of HCSG forms and miscellaneous materials in the company vehicle.
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attend company-provided trainings and seminars as required.
  • Participate in the HCSG 5 Marks program.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands

  • Labor-intensive work requiring lifting up to 50 lbs daily and up to 100 lbs on rare occasions.
  • Frequent climbing, balancing, stooping/crouching, overhead reaching, bending, squatting, and prolonged standing or sitting (90% of the time).
  • Occasional pushing, pulling, kneeling, and crawling.
  • Requires strong hand-eye coordination.
  • Regular work at heights exceeding 50 feet.
  • Travel required (20-50%), including potential out-of-town assignments and varying shifts to accommodate customer needs.
  • On-call and overtime work may be required.

Work Environment

Work is performed inside or outside, depending on customer requirements, with exposure to varying degrees of extreme hot and cold temperatures (summer temperatures can exceed 120 degrees). The position frequently involves exposure to noise, heights, fumes, dust, and odors.

Requirements

  • At least 5-7 years of crane repair and maintenance experience.
  • At least 3-4 years of electrical and/or mechanical experience in lieu of crane repair and maintenance experience.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Commitment to working and driving safely.
  • Willingness to work at various heights.
  • Basic computer skills for web-based crane inspection programs.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of hand tools or possession of personal hand tools.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational/Technical training certificate.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check (DISA) and comply with random and annual drug testing requirements.
