Oversees installation, commissioning, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems, including ductwork, control panels, and building pneumatics across commercial and industrial environments.
Responsibilities
- Leads diagnostics and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant issues.
- Implements and monitors preventive maintenance programs to extend equipment life and reduce downtimes.
- Manages rack systems, walk-ins, reach-ins, and supermarket refrigeration units for optimal performance and compliance.
- Operates heavy machinery as required.
- Submits written and electronic documentation, including expense vouchers, weekly summaries, work orders, and maintenance logs with detailed notes and before/after photos.
- Ensures adherence to OSHA standards and EPA refrigerant handling protocols by supervising field practices and documentation.
- Conducts inspections and repairs in accordance with federal, state, and local HVAC/R codes, including indoor air quality and cold chain requirements.
- Reclaims ozone-depleting refrigerants and maintains compliance with environmental guidelines.
- Leads HVAC/R field teams by coordinating work assignments, mentoring less-experienced Technicians, and managing escalated service issues.
- May train Developmental Technicians, including pickup at designated locations and hands-on instruction.
- Delivers hands-on training sessions on safety, control troubleshooting, and system operations at company, offsite, or vendor locations.
- Evaluates Technician skill sets and provides feedback to senior leadership to support workforce development.
- Participates in an on-call rotation to support business-critical needs outside standard business hours, responding promptly to incidents or requests.
- Manages refrigerant levels, parts inventory, and vendor relationships to ensure timely availability of materials.
- Tracks and orders HVAC/R parts, records purchases and usage, and ensures contract compliance with external service providers.
- Coordinates service calls and manages regional/market workloads to meet business priorities and timelines.
- Supports implementation of HVAC/R business solutions by identifying operational needs, monitoring progress, and adapting to organizational changes.
- Leads special projects by collecting data, evaluating new technologies, and recommending improvements.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams to develop and refine processes that meet evolving business demands.
- Maintains company vehicles in accordance with policies, including coordinating maintenance, checking fluid levels, brake condition, signals, and lights.
- Safely operates motor vehicles, ensures required documents are present, and submits maintenance invoices for payment.
- Verifies coverage and validity of vehicle insurance.
- Wears company uniform and badge as required.
- Leads and participates in teams by sharing resources, determining customer needs, coordinating work assignments, and providing feedback.

Requirements
- Option 1: 3 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration.
- Option 2: 6 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
- Hold and maintain Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling.
- Where required, HVAC-R/Mechanical Journeyman license.
- 1 year’s experience in plumbing, electrical, material handling equipment, or related area or 2 years’ Walmart store experience.
- Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report.
- Commercial driving record with:
- No convictions for DUI, DWI, or OUI within the last five (5) years.
- No more than two (2) moving violations in the last three (3) years.
- No preventable accidents while operating a commercial motor vehicle in the last three (3) years.
- No serious traffic violations (as defined by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations) in the last three (3) years.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a 2-year technical/vocational HVAC/R program or 2-year associate’s degree in A/C and refrigeration.
- Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
- Prior work experience with Glycol and CO2 systems.

Pay
The hourly wage range for this position is $35.00 - $70.00. The actual hourly rate will equal or exceed the required minimum wage applicable to the job location. Additional compensation in the form of premiums may be paid in amounts ranging from $0.35 to $3.00 per hour in specific circumstances, such as based on schedule, facility, season, or specific work performed. Multiple premiums may apply if applicable criteria are met.
