Senior Technician, Facility Services, HVAC/Refrigeration
About the Role
Oversees installation and commissioning of HVAC/R systems, including ductwork, control panels, and building pneumatics. Leads diagnostics and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant issues across commercial and industrial systems. Manages rack systems, walk-ins, reach-ins, and supermarket refrigeration units, ensuring optimal performance and compliance. Uses heavy machinery.
Responsibilities
- Implements and monitors preventive maintenance programs to extend equipment life and reduce downtimes.
- Submits required written and electronic information (e.g., expense vouchers, weekly summaries, work orders, maintenance logs).
- Enters detailed notes in work orders, including before and after photos.
- Ensures adherence to OSHA standards and EPA refrigerant handling protocols by supervising field practices and documentation.
- Conducts inspections and repairs in accordance with federal, state, and local HVAC/R codes, including indoor air quality and cold chain requirements.
- Reclaims ozone-depleting refrigerants and maintains compliance with environmental guidelines.
- Leads HVAC/R field teams by coordinating work assignments, mentoring less-experienced Technicians, and managing escalated service issues.
- Delivers hands-on training sessions on safety, control troubleshooting, and system operations at company facilities, offsite locations, or vendor sites.
- Evaluates Technician skill sets and provides feedback to senior leadership to support workforce development.
- Participates in an on-call rotation to support business critical needs outside of standard business hours.
- Manages refrigerant levels, parts inventory, and vendor relationships to ensure timely availability of materials.
- Tracks and orders HVAC/R parts, records purchases and usage, and ensures contract compliance with external service providers.
- Coordinates service calls and manages regional/market workloads to meet business priorities and timelines.
- Supports the implementation of HVAC/R business solutions by identifying operational needs, monitoring progress, and adapting to organizational changes.
- Leads special projects by collecting data, evaluating new technologies, and recommending improvements.
- Maintains company vehicles in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Develops, communicates, and implements processes and practices to meet business needs.
- Demonstrates, promotes, and supports compliance with company policies, procedures, and standards of ethics and integrity.
Qualifications
- Hold and maintain Type I and Type II or Universal Environmental Protection Agency certification for refrigerant handling.
- Where required, HVAC-R/ Mechanical Journeyman.
- Valid state-issued driver’s license and ability to pass a motor vehicle report.
- Commercial driving record meeting specific criteria (e.g., no DUI/DWI in last 5 years, no more than 2 moving violations in last 3 years, etc.).
Minimum Qualifications
- Option 1: 3 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration.
- Option 2: 6 years’ experience in HVAC/grocery rack refrigeration and Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration.
- 1 year’s experience in plumbing, electrical, material handling equipment, or related area or 2 years’ Walmart store experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a 2-year technical/vocational HVAC/R program or 2-year associate’s of applied science in A/C and refrigeration.
- Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and presentation software (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Prior work experience reading blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Prior work experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
- Prior work experience with Glycol and CO2 systems.

Pay
The hourly wage range for this position is $35.00 - $70.00. The actual hourly rate will equal or exceed the required minimum wage applicable to the job location. Additional compensation in the form of premiums may be paid in amounts ranging from $0.35 per hour to $3.00 per hour in specific circumstances.
