About the Role

RPH is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Writer to develop accurate, clear, and field-ready technical documentation for our commercial building product lines. This position requires more than strong writing skills. The Technical Writer must be able to understand construction products, drawings, assemblies, installation methods, and technical information and translate them into documentation that is both written and highly visual.

The role will produce installation manuals, technical data sheets, CSI specifications, submittals, picture cards, quick-reference guides, and other materials used by architects, engineers, contractors, and installers. The ideal candidate will also help RPH expand technical content into video and other visual training formats where appropriate.

This position reports to the Director of Marketing and can be based remotely in NJ, MD, PA, NY, or CT; however, the role requires regular onsite presence at RPH's Engineering Hub in Hammonton, New Jersey as business needs dictate. Travel is essential to effectively partner with engineers, gain hands-on product knowledge, observe installation practices, and develop best-in-class technical documentation. While remote candidates will be considered, applicants located in or near our New Jersey location are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and maintain technical documentation including:
    • Installation Manuals
    • Picture Cards and Quick-Reference Guides
    • Product Data Sheets and Technical Data Sheets
    • CSI Specifications and Guide Specifications
    • Submittal Packages and Cut Sheets
    • Bills of Materials
    • Technical Bulletins and Best Practices Guides
    • Troubleshooting Guides
    • Warranty and Product Limitation Documents
    • Application Guides and system tie-in diagrams
    • Training materials and technical videos
    • Other product and technical documentation as required
  • Translate engineering drawings, shop drawings, product information, and technical discussions into clear instructions, graphics, and visuals.
  • Develop documentation that balances written instruction with photography, illustrations, diagrams, callouts, and other visual communication.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering, Marketing, Quality, Product Development, Sales, and other internal teams to ensure technical accuracy.
  • Work directly with engineers and physical products to understand installation methods, product interfaces, limitations, and field applications.
  • Support the development of video-based installation and training content.
  • Maintain consistent terminology, formatting, document numbering, revision history, and version control.
  • Maintain a structured, organized technical document library and ensure current and superseded documents are properly managed.
  • Identify missing or conflicting technical information and work with subject matter experts to resolve it before publication.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years in technical writing and 5 years of experience in the construction industry.
  • Demonstrated technical writing experience within construction, building products, engineering, manufacturing, or another technically complex environment.
  • Strong understanding of construction terminology, drawings, assemblies, and documentation.
  • Strong graphic design and visual communication skills.
  • Experience creating technical manuals, diagrams, illustrations, picture-based instructions, or similar visual documentation.
  • Strong ability to translate complex technical information into clear, structured, field-ready content.
  • Ability to think mechanically and understand how products, components, and building systems interact.
  • Experience with document version control, revision management, and structured document libraries.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional information gathering and work effectively with engineers and other technical subject matter experts.
  • Ability to travel periodically to RPH's Engineering Hub in Hammonton, New Jersey.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of commercial roofing, waterproofing, building envelope systems, wall systems, mechanical assemblies, or related building products.
  • Familiarity with CSI MasterFormat, CSI specifications, and construction submittal documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural, engineering, fabrication, or shop drawings.
  • Understanding of how products interface within roof and wall assemblies and commercial construction sequencing.
  • Basic CAD or Revit literacy.
  • Experience with technical video, instructional video, or visual training content is a plus.

Pay

Starting compensation range: $100,000–$125,000 USD per year, based on experience, qualifications, and location.

Schedule

Typical working hours are 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Eastern Time. This position is exempt from overtime as determined by FLSA standards. Travel of up to approximately 15% is expected and may include occasional overnight domestic travel.
