About the role
We are seeking an experienced and technically driven SEO professional to join our dynamic eCommerce team and own organic search growth across Acme's digital properties. This role will lead the technical foundation of our SEO program — site architecture, crawlability, indexation, structured data, page performance, and the rapidly evolving landscape of AI-driven search. Working closely with engineering, content, and eCommerce teams, this position will set the technical direction for organic search and translate it into work that ships, drives qualified traffic, and grows revenue across our catalog of tens of thousands of products.
Responsibilities
- Develop and own the SEO roadmap for Acme's eCommerce business, aligning technical priorities to traffic and revenue goals.
- Lead site architecture, internal linking, and category and product page structure decisions across a catalog of tens of thousands of products.
- Partner with engineering to diagnose and resolve technical issues affecting crawlability, indexation, page speed, rendering, and overall site health.
- Implement and maintain structured data and schema markup (product, offer, review, breadcrumb, FAQ, organization) at scale to support both traditional search results and AI-driven search experiences.
- Manage faceted navigation, parameter handling, canonicalization, redirects, and crawl budget across a large eCommerce catalog.
- Audit and optimize Core Web Vitals and overall page performance, writing clear specifications that engineering teams can act on.
- Adapt SEO strategy for AI-driven search experiences, including generative answer engines and conversational query patterns, to ensure Acme remains visible as search continues to evolve.
- Optimize metadata, page titles, headings, and on-page content for both traditional rankings and emerging AI search interfaces.
- Conduct server log file analysis to diagnose crawl and indexation issues at catalog scale.
- Build and maintain dashboards that report organic performance across Google Search Console, Google Analytics, and AI search surfaces, connecting SEO work directly to traffic, conversion, and revenue.
- Partner with the content team to produce pages that demonstrate genuine experience, expertise, and trustworthiness while meeting technical quality standards.
- Educate and influence stakeholders across product, engineering, marketing, and merchandising on SEO best practices, and manage outside agencies or freelancers where required.
- Stay current with industry trends in search and AI-driven discovery, integrating new best practices into Acme's program for continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on SEO experience, with at least 2 years focused on technical SEO at an eCommerce or large-catalog site.
- Strong understanding of technical, on-page, and content SEO fundamentals.
- Working proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript sufficient to audit rendered output and partner effectively with engineering.
- Hands-on experience with Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Screaming Frog, and Ahrefs or Semrush.
- Experience implementing structured data and schema markup at scale.
- Demonstrated track record of driving organic growth on a large eCommerce or catalog site.
- Working knowledge of SQL or Python for pulling and analyzing search performance data.
- Familiarity with enterprise content management or eCommerce platforms (Salesforce Commerce Cloud, Shopify, Magento, or similar) preferred.
- Experience with AI-driven search optimization is a strong plus.
- Proven ability to get technical SEO work shipped through engineering teams.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to prioritize effectively across competing technical and content initiatives.
- A high degree of confidentiality of all departmental and company information.
