Senior Technical Program Manager, Platform Services
About the Team
DoorDash is building the industry’s most scalable and reliable delivery network to support a three‑sided marketplace of consumers, merchants, and dashers. Technical Program Managers (TPMs) on the Engineering teams provide fundamental support to the underlying technology services and the engineers building those services.
About the Role
Platform Services is responsible for extending DoorDash beyond the consumer marketplace. The team owns three distinct business lines: Drive (a white‑label delivery API), Parcels (last‑mile logistics for retailers and merchants), and Enterprise (DoorDash for Business, a B2B product suite for corporate meal programs and large orders). The Senior Technical Program Manager will lead engineering‑wide initiatives across Enterprise, Drive, and Parcels, partnering with Engineering, Product, Operations, and business leaders to deliver dependable, extensible logistics capabilities for external businesses. Programs will span backend services, partner and merchant integrations, operational tooling, and platform interfaces. The role reports to the centralized Technical Program Management team in Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Drive Platform Services’ most strategic programs by partnering closely with Engineering and Product leadership, Strategy & Operations, and cross‑functional teams to translate strategy into executable technical programs across Drive, Parcels, and Enterprise.
- Lead complex cross‑organization execution, establishing clear ownership and milestones, surfacing critical dependencies and trade‑offs, and aligning teams when the path forward is unclear.
- Bring technical depth and systems thinking: develop a deep understanding of architecture, integrations, data flows, and operational systems; engage in technical designs; identify scaling and reliability risks; and help teams make pragmatic trade‑offs.
- Turn ambiguity into strategy and action by gathering technical and business inputs, framing problems, defining success criteria, assessing risks and options, and creating an execution path that gains alignment.
- Connect engineering execution to business outcomes, using knowledge of merchant, partner, customer, and economic impacts to guide prioritization and keep teams focused on work that matters most to the business.
Qualifications
- Experience working with engineering teams on large‑scale distributed systems and/or B2B products, with the ability to discuss system architecture, scalability, reliability decisions, and design trade‑offs.
- Strong leadership and relationship‑building skills; able to bridge gaps across organizations and influence without authority.
- High ownership, urgency, and drive; willingness to roll up sleeves and dive into details.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of conveying concepts clearly to both experts and non‑experts.
- Hands‑on experience engaging with engineering on product and platform development, with a thorough understanding of software development processes and project planning.
- Pragmatic, detail‑oriented approach focused on progress rather than perfection.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of recent experience as a Technical Program Manager at a technology company.
- Proven experience in large‑scale distributed systems and system architecture.
- Demonstrated ability to work directly with engineering teams on product development, including reviewing technical design documents, estimating effort, and scheduling.
