About the role
The Senior Technical Trainer is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering high-impact technical training programs that prepare field technicians to safely install, maintain, and repair Kinetic products and services. This role provides instruction for new hire onboarding, technical skill development, fiber and copper installation and repair, broadband technologies, customer experience, and emerging operational initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Training Delivery & Facilitation: Deliver instructor-led classroom, virtual, and hands-on technical training programs. Create an engaging learning environment using adult learning principles and a variety of instructional methods. Facilitate new hire, technical, safety, and continuing education programs for field technicians. Utilize approved lesson plans, agendas, lab activities, and instructional materials while adapting delivery to meet learner needs. Evaluate learner progress through knowledge assessments, demonstrations, observations, and performance evaluations.
- Curriculum Development: Design, develop, and maintain technical training materials, instructor guides, participant guides, presentations, lab exercises, and performance support resources. Continuously improve training programs based on operational feedback, business priorities, quality metrics, and learner evaluations. Incorporate blended learning strategies, including instructor-led, virtual, self-paced, and hands-on learning experiences. Ensure all training content reflects current products, technologies, policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Coaching & Performance Support: Provide individual coaching and developmental feedback to technicians throughout training and field activities. Partner with field leaders to identify performance gaps and recommend training solutions. Mentor less experienced trainers and support facilitator development. Reinforce safe work practices and operational excellence through ongoing coaching.
- Business Partnership: Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Safety, Product, and Leadership teams to identify training needs and implement effective learning solutions. Participate in new product launches, process improvements, and operational initiatives requiring technical training. Maintain expertise in current and emerging broadband technologies, installation methods, testing equipment, and customer experience standards. Represent the Training organization during meetings, pilot programs, and cross-functional projects.
- Planning & Project Management: Effectively manage multiple training projects, travel schedules, curriculum updates, and operational priorities. Maintain accurate training records and documentation. Proactively identify opportunities to improve technician performance and training effectiveness. Support special projects and business initiatives as assigned.
Requirements

- Ability to simplify complex technical concepts for learners with varying levels of experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and learning technologies.
- Able to travel extensively as business needs require.
- Able to work flexible schedules, including extended hours when necessary.
- Valid driver's license.
- Commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards.
Qualifications
- Fiber and Copper installation, maintenance, and repair experience.
- Residential and small business telecommunications experience.
- Familiarity with broadband technologies, including high-speed internet, voice, and related customer-premise equipment.
- Diagnosing and repairing outside plant and customer premise service issues.
- Ability to use technical test equipment for copper and fiber troubleshooting.
- Ability to read engineering records, network diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Safe work practices related to ladders, poles, tools, equipment, and field operations.
- Understanding of Vermeer and Ditch Witch machinery use and maintenance.
- Ability to distinguish colors used in telecommunications cable identification.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and testing equipment.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 70 pounds, including ladders and equipment.
- Ability to climb ladders and utility poles up to 18 feet.
