About the role
Information Technology is at the forefront of patient experience at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, one of the top hospitals in the nation. The Senior Technical Architect in Information Technology – Epic Patient Access serves as a senior technical expert leading the design, build, optimization, and delivery of Epic Patient Access and Experience solutions across the enterprise. The role translates operational and clinical needs into scalable Epic configurations, promotes best practices, and ensures consistent, high-quality configuration across sites and teams to improve access, enhance operational throughput, and support NYP’s digital strategy.
Responsibilities
- Provides deep application expertise to ensure registration, scheduling, and patient movement operate reliably and efficiently across contexts.
- Translates clinical content UI/UX design within Epic, developing intuitive strategies, decision support, and guided scheduling workflows to enhance scheduling efficiency and patient experience.
- Defines build standards and promotes best practices to maintain consistent, high-quality configuration across sites and teams.
- Applies comprehensive technical knowledge to assigned systems and provides technical support to Information Services staff and end users.
- Researches, plans, and designs interfaces between a wide variety of systems to support clinical and business needs; develops, tests, documents, and implements changes and enhancements to existing interfaces.
- Participates in key user committees to identify business requirements and recommend solutions aligned with organizational goals and regulatory guidelines.
- Provides business and technical design guidance to other IS staff in the development and support of IS systems; offers technical assistance to staff members.
- Oversees the technical design, implementation, analysis, and modifications of new and existing programs and systems to support clinical, corporate, and technical operations across all facilities.
- Develops, implements, and oversees advanced technical activities for complex Information Services initiatives; provides technical support to IS staff and end users.
- Provides project leadership with the implementation of new applications and systems; creates and maintains accurate, current documentation for supported applications.
- Participates in the maintenance of training materials and reviews documentation and training materials prepared by fellow analysts.
- Designs highly maintainable and scalable software architecture to support rapid changes; develops technical design documents to justify chosen architecture and implementation.
- Monitors system performance and response times; recommends improvements and provides reports to users and management as required.
- Acts as a visionary and strategist for the solution product area; develops and executes solution strategies supporting product growth and agility.
- Assists in the day-to-day oversight and management of the team as needed; surveys the market landscape for solution insights, direction, vendors, and methods.
- Provides mentoring, training, and resources to fellow analysts; maintains a favorable work environment for team members and clients.
- Oversees instruction, direction, and inspection of assignments for fellow analysts; supports product delivery from concept inception to operational support.
- Interfaces and coordinates tasks with internal and external technical resources; collaborates with project managers and technical directors to provision estimates, develop implementation solution plans, and serve as a lead for installation, customization, and integration efforts.
- Maintains current knowledge of the field and emerging technological advancements in computerization and automation.
- Performs other special projects and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Epic Module Certification obtained within six months of employment.
- Seven or more years of previous work-related experience.
- Ability to work within a team environment.

Preferred Criteria
- Degree or major in Computer Science.
- Previous work experience at Epic Systems.
- Epic Cadence, Prelude, Referrals, Grand Central, Welcome, MyChart, or Cheers certification.
- ITIL Certification.
- PMP Certification.
- Operating Systems: Mac OS; Microsoft Windows Client OS; Microsoft Windows Server OS; UNIX, and Linux; DOS; NT.
- Database: SQL Server; Oracle; Database design and development; ETL (SSIS) Package Development.
- Programming Languages: Microsoft .NET Development; SQL; Scripting in PowerShell, VBScripts, JavaScript (including jQuery, AngularJS, and other frameworks); C#; C++; Java; Python; Ruby; Visual Basic; Assembly language; UNIX shell script; Perl; COBOL.
- Applications: Clinical Applications (Cardiology, Radiology, Lab, Pharmacy); EHR systems (Allscripts, Cerner, Epic); Crystal; SSRS.
- Experience with mobile application development on Apple iOS, Google Android, or Windows platforms.
- Experience in web-based, client-server, and three-tier architectures.
- Proficiency in industry-standard tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, Protopie, Tableau, or other visualization tools.
- Statistical Application Fluency (SAS, SPSS, Python ML, Scala, Spark ML, etc.).
- Big Data Tools (MapReduce, Hadoop, Cloudera, IBM Big Insights, Hortonworks, or Map).
