About the role

The Senior Technical Designer, Bras plays a pivotal role in transforming design concepts into production-ready bras that deliver exceptional fit, support, comfort, and performance. This role partners closely with Design, Product Development, Merchandising, and overseas vendors to execute the technical development process from concept through production.

Responsibilities

- Attend development handoff meetings and create initial technical specifications. - Lead fit sessions, evaluate support, comfort, shape, and functionality, and issue clear, concise fit comments. - Partner with domestic and overseas vendors to resolve technical issues, construction challenges, pad development, and fit corrections throughout development process. - Review and approve bra patterns and pad molds/slopers, making pattern adjustments when necessary to achieve optimal fit and performance. - Ensure consistency in bra fit, grading, construction, and quality standards across all product classifications. - Evaluate and maintain Torrid's bra fit standards, grade rules, and tolerance specifications. - Identify potential fit, support, construction, or quality concerns early in the development process and proactively collaborate with cross-functional partners and vendors to resolve them. - Provide technical expertise in bra construction, including pad development, underwires, cup engineering, cradle and frame construction, wing design, closures, elastics, straps, and support components. - Partner cross-functionally with Design, Product Development, Merchandising, and Quality Assurance to deliver products that balance aesthetic, fit, comfort, functionality, and cost objectives. - Demonstrate independent decision-making while balancing brand standards, fit integrity, timelines, and business objectives. - Participate in weekly cross-functional meetings to review development status, key business insights, best and worst sellers, and seasonal product updates. - Manage workload to ensure timely sample reviews, fit comments, and adherence to development calendars (TNA), escalating timing, fit, or vendor performance issues as needed.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Apparel Production, Textiles, or related field preferred. - Minimum of five (5) years of technical design, patternmaking, or intimate apparel product development experience in retail, manufacturing, or equivalent. - Experience in panties, lingerie, shapewear apparel categories a plus. - Extensive technical design experience specializing in bras, including pad development, underwire, wireless, molded cup, cut-and-sew, seamless, and specialty bra constructions. - Advanced knowledge of bra fit engineering, patternmaking, pad development, grading, garment construction, support systems, and manufacturing processes. - Strong understanding of bra componentry, including underwires, foam cups, elastics, hook-and-eye closures, straps, bonding techniques, and performance materials. - Comprehensive knowledge of fabric behavior, stretch and recovery, support characteristics, and performance testing specific to bras. - Experience fitting and grading plus-size bras preferred. - Advanced proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, PLM systems (Centric, PDM, or similar), Gerber, or other 2D patternmaking software. - Excellent communication, organization, and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple initiatives in a fast-paced environment. - Experience collaborating with overseas vendors and managing the technical fit process across global partnerships.

Pay

Salary range: $100,000 - $130,000
