About the role

We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer who is passionate about solving complex problems and wants to make a real impact on the Joint Precision Approach and Landing System (JPALS) and adjacent programs. In this role, you will take ownership of defining and evolving requirements for a fielded GPS-based approach and landing system used in some of the most demanding operational environments. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, integrated system solutions. If you enjoy systems thinking, clear technical communication, and driving clarity out of complexity, this is a role where you can thrive—and grow.

Responsibilities

  • Support the JPALS and JPALS-adjacent programs
  • Elicit, derive, and define system-level and subsystem-level requirements based on customer specifications and operational concepts
  • Analyze stakeholder needs and translate them into technical, testable, and feasible requirements
  • Apply systems thinking to ensure requirements completeness, consistency, and proper allocation across hardware, software, and interfaces
  • Work with the system requirements engineering team and apply technical guidance from the team lead
  • Develop and maintain requirements in IBM Rational DOORS, including traceability and change impact assessment
  • Create and use scripts to automate documentation import/export to/from DOORS across multiple formats
  • Define and document system and subsystem interfaces, contributing to ICDs and architecture artifacts
  • Participate in technical discussions, design reviews, and requirement change assessments
  • Support verification planning by defining verification methods and collaborating with test teams

Requirements

You Must Have

  • Familiarity with GPS/PNT systems
  • Proficiency with IBM Rational DOORS and requirements management best practices
  • Proficiency with DOORS DXL scripting
  • Experience with systems engineering activities including requirement derivation, interface definition, allocation, integration, requirement sell-off, analysis, test procedure development, test execution, and results evaluation
  • Familiarity with generating and maintaining technical documentation such as specifications, ICDs, Test Requirements Documents (TRDs), and Verification Cross-Reference Matrices
  • Proficiency with Digital Engineering tools (DOORS, Cameo, Microsoft Office Suite, Jira, Confluence)
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience

We Prefer

  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and lifecycle (concept → design → integration → verification → validation)
  • Ability to understand how system components interact
  • Ability to identify requirement gaps, inconsistencies, conflicts, or duplication
  • Familiarity with Engineering Lifecycle Optimization (ELO) – Publishing
  • Exposure to Agile development workflows (Jira, Confluence)
  • Experience with Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) practices
  • Familiarity with Verification Cross-Reference Matrices (VCRM), TRDs, or Systems Engineering Plan (SEP) artifacts

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Three weeks of vacation for newly hired employees
  • Generous 401(k) plan that includes employer matching funds and separate employer retirement contribution, including a Lifetime Income Strategy option
  • Tuition reimbursement program
