Job Overview

The Senior Systems Designer II will assume a leadership role within our dynamic design team, bringing extensive experience and advanced expertise to the forefront of our electrical projects. In this senior-level position, you will play a critical role in shaping and overseeing the development of intricate electrical systems, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the highest standards of precision and innovation.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Tasks

  • Provide low voltage/safety systems design support under the direction of the Senior Design staff with minimal oversight.
  • Autonomously complete design drafting primarily in Autodesk Revit.
  • Daily tasks include:
    • Maintaining design documentation
    • Setup of Revit models
    • Development of design details in Autodesk AutoCAD
    • Development of project specifications
    • Development and preparation of design details in Revit
    • Creation of 3D models, device selections, and circuiting of low voltage systems
    • Fire detection and alarm
    • Nurse call
    • Access control
    • Safety-related phone systems
    • Two-way communications
    • Coordination of electrical loads and requirements with Mechanical, Technology, and other discipline plans
    • Calculations in support of above modelled equipment
    • Validation of design against client design criteria, pre-award direction, and scope of work
    • Response to client/construction questions (RFI’s)
    • Attendance at client design coordination meetings and providing reports to Senior Design Staff and Project Management
    • Attendance at Department, Company, and project management meetings
    • Assistance with department development and improvement tasks
    • Leadership and mentorship to junior staff
    • Leadership and mentorship to junior staff
    • Lead project designs utilizing junior staff effectively
    • Participation in skills training and continuing education to further develop professional skills
    • Innovation of processes to accelerate design development, improve quality of designs, and increase efficiency of transition from design phase to construction
    • Utilization of cloud-based scheduling tools for design task management
    • Active participation in team building activities, cross training
  • Validation of drawings package for delivery to client
  • Guidance of Pre-Award, Construction, and client staff on design options to reduce costs, improve installation quality, and/or increase value of end product
  • Take initiative to research gaps in knowledge to resolve challenges independently
  • Support the team as required to balance work load and share responsibility

Compensation

Rex Moore pays hourly/salary rates commensurate with each employee’s knowledge, experience, and skill level.

Work environment

Senior Systems Designer II typically work in an office environment. Reporting Structure: Reports to - (Systems Design Manager) Department - (DFP)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's of Science in Engineering or related field / Technical certification related to Computer Aided Drafting (Preferred)
  • Nicet III certification
  • Minimum Two (2) years as a Senior Systems Designer
  • Demonstrated application of the California Electric Code and NFPA
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to design fire alarm and low voltage systems with minimal supervision
  • Ability to lead design of medium to large projects with minimal support from EORS
  • Superior written and oral communication skills (English)
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Technological Skills: Microsoft Excel (Expert), Microsoft Word (Expert), Microsoft Power Point (Expert), Microsoft Outlook (Expert), Microsoft Project (Intermediate), Microsoft Notes (Intermediate), Microsoft Teams / Zoom (Expert), Autodesk Revit (Expert), Autodesk AutoCAD (Expert), Bluebeam (Beginner), Microsoft Windows File Management, Visual 3D (Intermediate)
  • Ability to learn new software quickly and independently
  • Interest in exploring new software and tools to improve design processes
  • Willingness to take initiative to support and train other team members
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Familiarity with contractor documentation and processes
  • Work well both independently and part of a team
  • Self-motivated
  • Attention to detail
  • Represent Rex Moore in client meetings
  • Support Pre-Award in bid process

Physical Requirements

Ability to verbally communicate: convey detailed and accurate instructions and information.

  • Ability to hear with or without correction in order to receive and interpret detailed information.
  • Required to sit at a desk work station for long periods of time.
  • Push, pull, lift, and carry at least 10 pounds.
  • Frequently required to walk and stand.
  • This position may involve infrequent site visits which will require the ability to walk on uneven surfaces, climb stairs, and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Required to have visual acuity with or without correction in order to read contract documents, analyze data, view a computer monitor, and proof-read documents to identify errors.
  • Required to use fingers and hands: type using a computer keyboard, handle, feel, and reach.
  • May occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, and crouch.
