About the role
The Senior Systems Administrator supports the U.S. Army Information Systems Engineering Command (USAISEC), Communications Security Directorate (CSD), by providing comprehensive enterprise-level system, network, and workstation administration services across classified and unclassified environments.
Responsibilities
- Administer, update, and maintain physical and virtual Windows, Linux, UNIX, and Active Directory servers.
- Install, configure, and sustain system and application software, patches, and updates.
- Maintain support tickets with vendors and Government partners and coordinate warranty actions.
- Provide daily end-user technical support for workstations, peripherals, and communication devices.
- Deploy and maintain workstations and associated hardware.
- Create and manage user accounts across classified and unclassified networks.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and connectivity issues.
- Deliver user training on core operating systems and software tools.
- Issue outage notifications for planned and unplanned service events.
- Serve as Key Management Infrastructure (KMI) Client Platform Administrator.
- Configure and maintain LAN/WAN devices including routers, switches, encryptors, and firewalls.
- Monitor network uptime, traffic, and performance.
- Install, test, and maintain copper and fiber cabling, resolving physical and logical network issues.
- Document cabling, port assignments, and network configurations.
- Enforce cybersecurity policies in alignment with Army, DoD, and RMF requirements.
- Manage domains, permissions, privileged accounts, and access controls.
- Support RMF and ATO processes through system documentation and compliance artifacts.
- Run vulnerability scans, validate security controls, and support continuous monitoring.
- Respond to security incidents, malware events, and classified spillage.
- Isolate affected systems, preserve evidence, and support remediation activities.
- Execute and verify daily system backups.
- Transport classified backup media to off-site secure facilities as required.
- Maintain and test contingency and disaster recovery plans.
- Prepare for outages, hardware failures, and service disruptions.
- Support long-term IT planning and lifecycle replacement strategies.
- Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies.
- Participate in technical boards, working groups, and governance activities.
- Prepare and deliver technical briefings and analysis.
- Support system testing, including scenario-based and configuration-based evaluations.
- Maintain system documentation, SOPs, and troubleshooting guides.
- Ensure documentation supports rapid onboarding of new personnel.
- Improve tools, processes, and procedures as directed by leadership.
Requirements
- Clearance Level: Top-Secret Clearance
- Certifications: Must meet DoD 8140 Cyber Workforce Qualification Program requirements for System Administrator (DCWF 451), Intermediate level. One of the following: CompTIA Cloud+, CompTIA Security+, GIAC Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP), GIAC Security Essentials Certification (GSEC), Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP)
