About the role

Bohler’s Richmond, VA office is seeking a Senior Survey Crew Chief to oversee all phases of field surveying, from boundary and topographic surveys to construction layout.

Responsibilities

  • Lead survey field crews to complete boundary, topographic, ALTA, as-built, and construction layout surveys for land development projects
  • Operate and oversee the use of Trimble Robotic Total Stations, GPS Data Collectors, and related surveying equipment
  • Perform field calculations, sketching, and quality control reviews of collected data
  • Train and mentor junior crew members on procedures, safety, and best practices
  • Download, compile, and verify field data, sketches, and plans for accuracy and completeness
  • Manage survey equipment maintenance, field vehicles, and project logistics
  • Cookordination project requirements with supervisory staff, engineers, and project managers
  • Ensure all field work complies with company standards, client expectations, and safety protocols
  • Independently execute complex surveys and manage multiple active job sites

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED and/or equivalent experience; college coursework in surveying, engineering, or math is a plus
  • 8+ years of field surveying experience using robotic total stations and GPS data collectors (Trimble preferred)
  • Proven ability to lead and train field crews effectively
  • Strong understanding of land development surveying methods, data management, and construction layout
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills with a focus on quality and safety
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs and work outdoors in varied conditions
  • Willingness to travel and work overtime when needed
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (mileage reimbursement provided per IRS regulations)
