About the role
Bohler’s Richmond, VA office is seeking a Senior Survey Crew Chief to oversee all phases of field surveying, from boundary and topographic surveys to construction layout.
Responsibilities
- Lead survey field crews to complete boundary, topographic, ALTA, as-built, and construction layout surveys for land development projects
- Operate and oversee the use of Trimble Robotic Total Stations, GPS Data Collectors, and related surveying equipment
- Perform field calculations, sketching, and quality control reviews of collected data
- Train and mentor junior crew members on procedures, safety, and best practices
- Download, compile, and verify field data, sketches, and plans for accuracy and completeness
- Manage survey equipment maintenance, field vehicles, and project logistics
- Cookordination project requirements with supervisory staff, engineers, and project managers
- Ensure all field work complies with company standards, client expectations, and safety protocols
- Independently execute complex surveys and manage multiple active job sites
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED and/or equivalent experience; college coursework in surveying, engineering, or math is a plus
- 8+ years of field surveying experience using robotic total stations and GPS data collectors (Trimble preferred)
- Proven ability to lead and train field crews effectively
- Strong understanding of land development surveying methods, data management, and construction layout
- Excellent organizational and communication skills with a focus on quality and safety
- Physical ability to lift 50 lbs and work outdoors in varied conditions
- Willingness to travel and work overtime when needed
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation (mileage reimbursement provided per IRS regulations)
