Job Description
- Develop physical design packages for AIS and GIS substations ranging from 12kV-500kV+
- Produce detailed engineering drawings including:
- General arrangement plans
- Plan and elevation views
- Equipment layouts
- Control building layouts
- Conduit and trench plans
- Grounding layouts
- Lightning protection plans
- Bus and rigid bus layouts
- Structural steel and foundation drawings
- Prepare material take-offs (MTOs) and Bills of Material (BOMs)
- Coverage of site walkdowns and incorporation of field conditions into design packages
- Perform QA/QC reviews to ensure compliance with client standards, NEC, NESC, IEEE, and utility specifications
- Support construction by responding to RFIs, reviewing submittals, and incorporating as-built revisions
- Lead design reviews with internal teams and clients
- Mentor junior designers and provide technical guidance on drafting standards and best practices
Requirements
- 8+ years of substation physical design experience
- Experience designing utility substations from 69kV-500kV (higher voltage preferred)
- Strong knowledge of:
- Physical layout design
- Grounding systems
- Conduit and cable routing
- Bus design
- Equipment clearances
- Structural coordination
- Experience supporting EPC, utility, or consulting engineering projects
- Ability to read one-line diagrams, schematics, and equipment specifications
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams
