Role Context

This role sits within the power networks sector and supports high-voltage substation projects. The working environment involves collaboration with lead engineers and multidisciplinary design teams to produce coordinated project drawing packages. The position may also involve site walkdowns as part of project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare scaled physical electrical drawings for high-voltage substation projects, including one-line diagrams, general arrangements, plan views, elevation views, grounding plans, conduit plans and related details.
  • Develop complete design drawing packages for review and checking, or check drawing packages prepared by others.
  • Work closely with engineers and other disciplines to produce coordinated and accurate design deliverables.
  • Support project delivery across multiple assignments simultaneously while maintaining quality, schedule and budget expectations.
  • Aid with layout development using existing reference information where direction may be limited.
  • Support document quality assurance and ensure deliverables align with applicable drawing standards and project procedures.
  • Carry out tasks in line with applicable codes, standards and project requirements.
  • Travel to job sites where required to perform site walkdowns.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential: Associate Degree or Diploma in Electrical Design / Drafting with discipline-specific training.
  • Essential: Substation design experience and familiarity with high-voltage substation projects.
  • Essential: Extensive relevant design experience.
  • Essential: Competent understanding of regulations, electrical codes, manufacturing standards and industry standard practices.
  • Essential: Proficiency in AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Essential: Ability to manipulate scaled vector and raster drawing files in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Essential: Ability to understand and implement a wide range of client CAD standards.
  • Essential: Familiarity with electrical design codes and standards.
  • Essential: Familiarity with MS Office, including Word, Excel and Access.
  • Essential: Strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Essential: Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Desirable: 3D CAD experience.
