Senior Structural Engineer - Transportation

About the role

Stantec is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join the Transportation team in Tampa, Florida. This role offers the opportunity to work on evaluating, selecting, specifying, and engineering systems or products for a project.

Responsibilities

• Select and apply appropriate design criteria to perform minor bridge design and load rating assignments.
• Prepare engineering project documents, such as design calculations, pertaining to specific projects.
• Prepare high quality contract documents (plans, specifications, and estimates) for the construction of structures such as bridges, retaining walls, box culverts, signal/sign structures or pedestrian structures.
• Perform field inspections and condition assessments.
• Recognize when technical problems are developing and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
• Utilize relevant software packages to perform structural design and analysis (STAAD, Leap Bridge, MathCAD, and spreadsheets).
• Utilize relevant software programs to prepare working and final drawings in accordance with client standards (MicroStation, AutoCAD).

Qualifications

• Ability to solve problems using sound professional judgment, creativity and innovation.
• Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the design team.
• Working knowledge of codes, legal and design requirements in relevant jurisdictions and developing jurisdictional experience and contacts.
• Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.
• Develops ability to effectively discuss project issues.
• Communicate effectively with clients.
• Proficient in MicroStation, AutoCAD, and MathCAD is expected.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Civil Engineering or a related degree.
• Master of Science (MS) degree in Structural Engineering or a related degree (preferred).
• Professional Engineering license in Florida, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• 10+ years related experience in Transportation roadway, structures, and bridge design and analysis.
