Senior Engineer - Transportation
About the role
The Transportation Engineer (PE) will support the planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects for public sector clients including State DOTs, counties, municipalities, and local agencies. The role focuses on transportation design, roadway improvements, corridor projects, and multidisciplinary coordination.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support roadway and transportation design projects including highways, arterials, collectors, intersections, and local roadways
- Prepare and review Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E)
- Develop roadway geometry including alignments, profiles, cross sections, grading plans, and corridor models
- Cover coordinate roadway drainage integration and utility considerations
- Develop construction documents and 3D roadway models using transportation design software
- Cover coordinate with traffic, drainage, utility, geotechnical, environmental, and structural teams
- Ensure compliance with AASHTO, MUTCD, state DOT, and local agency standards
- May perform QA/QC reviews of plans, calculations, and technical deliverables
- Support project delivery, scheduling efforts, and client coordination
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff
- Support construction activities including RFIs, submittal reviews, and field coordination
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Washington State required
- Minimum 5+ years of transportation engineering experience
- Experience with roadway, highway, and transportation infrastructure projects for DOT, municipal, and public agency clients
- Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Experience with roadway design including plan and profiles, cross sections, corridor modeling, and grading
- Strong understanding of AASHTO, MUTCD, and applicable state DOT standards
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading transportation design efforts and federally funded projects
- Familiarity with MicroStation, Bluebeam, Synchro, and Bentley OpenRoads Designer (ORD)
- Experience with roadway drainage, utility coordination, and right of way considerations
- Design experience for WSDOT facilities
- Knowledge and understanding of ADA compliance and PROWAG requirements
