About the role

Serves as lead engineer on medium to large projects. Designs function. Reviews awarded project scope, specifications, and available budgets. Develops conceptual 3D structural layouts using Revit. Coordinates with other disciplines to optimize structure layouts and features to seamlessly integrate structures with mechanical equipment and the building. Performs preliminary analysis on structural frames to establish steel profiles; incorporates into preliminary 3D structural layouts. Presents preliminary layouts to clients for review, further design iterations, and conceptual approval; ensures structure designs are optimized to support client operational needs. Develops and documents final structure drawings for formal approval using Revit and AutoCAD. Coordinates with designated Engineer-of-Record to finalize structure frame design for permitting and construction.

Execution function. Projects schedule. Works with Project Management to establish and track key milestones. Ensures material procurement and detailing activities are timed to meet onsite date requirements. Project budget. Monitors engineering progress and material purchasing commitments to maintain project budgets. Raises awareness to change order conditions as scope evolves over project life cycle. Develops cost estimates for change order conditions as needed. Steel detailing coordination. Conducts and documents project handoff to detailing team. Monitors detailing progress to ensure timely releases to structural fabrication. Checks fabrication details for fitment, completeness, and adherence to project specifications. Travel to jobsites occasionally.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
  • Prioritizes multiple project assignments and adapts to changing priorities in a fast-paced results-oriented environment
  • Learns the material handling business and assists across teams and divisions
  • Interfaces effectively with in-house and external customers, vendors, consulting engineers, architects, and installers
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Team-oriented and collaborative
  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented
  • Able to learn new technologies

Qualifications

  • Proficient in Revit and AutoCAD, working knowledge of Microsoft Office, experience with Advance Steel (a plus)
