Senior Structural Engineer - Buildings

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Senior Buildings Structural Engineer to join our Structural Engineering team in Seattle, WA. Our engineers design structural systems for buildings, foundations, and earth retention structures for new construction, additions, and renovations using steel, timber, reinforced concrete, or masonry. We focus on cost-effective, sustainable designs that enhance the health, safety, and comfort of building occupants through strong client relationships and streamlined coordination with in-house services.

About the role

This position involves structural design and analysis across all project phases, including feasibility studies, scope and condition assessment, code compliance review, load analyses, drawing preparation, bidding services, and construction administration.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering calculations using computer software, spreadsheets, and hand calculations.
• Create structural design plans and details in AutoCAD and Revit.
• Coach and mentor junior staff.
• Conduct site visits to observe construction progress and survey existing structural components.
• Coordinate with architects, owners, and other engineering disciplines.
• Review shop drawings and respond to RFIs.
• Perform QA/QC-related tasks.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Civil or Architectural Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.) license required.
• 10+ years of professional structural engineering experience.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit.
• Intermediate to advanced understanding of structural design software (e.g., RISA, RAM, TEKLA, TEDDS, SAFE, PROFIS) with a willingness to learn new tools.
• Willingness to adapt to new software and client needs.
• Understanding of steel, concrete, masonry, and wood design principles.
• Mass timber experience or desire to learn preferred.
• Knowledge of current building and material design codes and standards (e.g., IBC, ASCE7, AISC360, ACI318, ACI 530, NDS).
• Strong Microsoft Office skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively on a team.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to read, write, and understand English for job-related communications and instructions.

Pay

$120,000 to $150,000 per year (depending on qualifications).
