About the role

The Transportation Facilities Group (TFG) at WSP USA is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to support projects that enhance transportation infrastructure in the NY Metro Region. The ideal candidate will lead and design projects for rail and bus stations, airports, transportation hubs, rail systems, and a variety of other facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering staff on various task assignments.
  • Develop structural design details, drawings, and specifications, including calculations for new designs, rehabilitation, and renovation work.
  • Utilize structural software such as STAADPro, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, RAM Structural System, Mathcad, Excel, and Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Open Building.
  • Coordinate with various engineering disciplines and architects in the development of design contract documents.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers, professionals, and infrastructure authorities on projects.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct.
  • Exercise leadership in a paperless (or limited-use) office environment and remote working when required.
  • Lead field inspection teams for evaluation of structural systems of existing buildings.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering, or equivalent.
  • Master’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural engineering, highly preferred.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural design experience in transportation projects.
  • PE License (NY/NJ) or capability to obtain a New York State PE license within 1 year.
  • Knowledgeable in state and city building codes, as well as industry standard specifications (IBC, ACI 318, AISC 360, etc.).
  • Prior experience working with construction documents.
  • Knowledgeable in STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, RAM Structural System, Mathcad, Excel or similar structural design software.
  • Proficiency of AutoCAD and REVIT; knowledgeable in MicroStation and Open Building is a plus.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results oriented, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills and well organized.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Qualifications

  • Strong capabilities and understanding in using structural software such as STAADPro, RAM Structural System, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, RAM Structural System, Mathcad, Excel or similar structural design software.
  • Utilizing Microsoft Excel and Mathcad Prime to develop structural calculations.
  • Leading field inspection teams for evaluation of structural systems of existing buildings.
  • Coordination with various engineering disciplines as well as with architects in the development of design contract documents.
  • Work within a paperless (or limited-use) office environment and remote working when required.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers, professionals, and infrastructure authorities on Federal, State, regional, local, and privately funded improvement and development projects.
  • Exercising responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Skills

  • Structural design software proficiency (STAADPro, SAP2000, ETABS, SAFE, RAM Structural System, Mathcad, Excel).
  • AutoCAD and REVIT proficiency.
  • MicroStation and Open Building proficiency.
  • Construction documents knowledge.
