Senior Structural Engineer
About the role
Stantec is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our team of transportation professionals servicing state and municipal clients in Maine, New Hampshire, and throughout New England. This position would be based out of the Portland, ME or Auburn, NH office, but you would be part of a larger New England transportation design group with offices in South Burlington, VT; Burlington & Boston, MA; and several other satellite offices.
Responsibilities
- Lead bridge design projects of varying size and complexity through all phases of design
- Develop design plans, technical specifications, and construction cost estimates
- Prepare, check, and deliver engineering calculations, reports, and technical studies
- Guide and mentor junior and intermediate staff
- Build a strong culture of quality design and teamwork
- Assist with or lead bridge inspection and load rating assignments
- Carry out constructability reviews during the design of conventionally procured projects
- Develop and present information to clients and the public
- Collaborate with clients, agencies, subconsultants, and others to obtain and determine project requirements and approvals
Requirements
The successful candidate will also have opportunities to collaborate with our other teams across the United States and in Canada and support their project needs as opportunities arise.
Qualifications
- Thorough understanding of MaineDOT, Maine Turnpike and/or NHDOT design standards and practices
- Strong knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications
- Experience in a bridge engineering technical lead role
- Ability to check the work of others for accuracy and completeness and manage time to meet project budget and schedule
- Effective verbal, visual, and written communication skills
- Proficient in MicroStation, MathCAD, & Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience using bridge design and analysis software (Merlin-Dash, CSiBridge, STAAD, AASHTOware, LPile, Group, LEAP-steel/concrete, etc.)
- Experience with bridge inspection and load rating
