About the Role
Generally responsible for supervision and technical direction over a team of engineers including total delivery of the civil/structural deliverables and services on time, within performance budget and meeting quality expectations. This role involves performing advanced engineering work as a technical specialist for complex engineering assignments with minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Review and approval of all civil/structural deliverables.
- Validation of professional services and construction estimates at the onset of projects and tracking changes as the project progresses.
- Accomplishing engineering activities such as stress analysis, construction specifications, material procurement specifications, calculations, and estimates.
- Producing professional service estimates in accordance with department standards for project deliverables, studies, change notices, and proposal efforts.
- Developing conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine efficient approaches to solving engineering tasks.
- Establishing design criteria incorporating client requirements, estimates, and applicable standards/codes while ensuring permitting requirements are communicated.
- Initiating timely change notices for deviations affecting schedule, deliverables, or cost.
- Planning and organizing team work, communicating plans to the team, project leadership, and clients.
- Maintaining project control by tracking performance budget progress, schedule commitments, and quality standards.
- Delegating work proportionate to engineers' skills and experience, ensuring efficient progress and quality.
- Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure coordination and quality.
- Producing detail design calculations and sketches for materials of construction.
- Designing projects with efficient use of construction materials, emphasizing ease of construction and client expectations.
- Checking calculations made by other engineers for accuracy and conformance to codes and good engineering practice.
- Producing construction specifications and monitoring drawings for conformance to design calculations and specifications.
- Assisting the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems.
- Producing bid packages for civil/structural purchase inquiries.
- Participating in planning training programs and professional development for staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university (structural coursework required for structural positions).
- Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred or may be required.
Skills
- Knowledge of design standards and codes.
- Application and specification of civil/structural materials.
- Development of material procurement specifications.
- Good design practices for sizing civil/structural systems.
- Coordination of design efforts with other disciplines.
- Understanding of schedule constraints and deliverable requirements.
- Ability to estimate task completion, construction costs, and engineering schedules.
- Ability to determine construction material quantities and develop design criteria.
- Creation of accurate civil/structural installation documents and specifications.
- Experience in estimating and scheduling professional service hours.
- Understanding of skills and experience required for engineering and design functions.
- Knowledge of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
- Leadership in project teams to deliver on commitments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- Strong virtual team skills and cross-divisional relationships.
- Leadership in the Community of Practice.
